🏈 Tide will start spring practice without Eddie Lacy and Duron Carter, among others

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Running back Eddie Lacy and wide receiver Duron Carter will be among the players who will be missing Friday when Alabama opens spring football practice, coach Nick Saban said Tuesday.

Lacy (turf toe) and offensive tackle Arie Kouandjio (knee) are coming off of surgeries and won't participate in any spring practices.

"They're not ready," Saban said. "We knew that when they got the surgeries that they got, so this is no surprise to anyone."

Lacy #1, and a 3 man race for #2... We already know what Fowler can do to a wore down D. Obviously this is prior to any spring practices...From what I've read, Hart is adding bulk and itching to complete (he would have gotten PT last season) and I'd imagine keeping Yeldon off the field will be tough.

gonna be fun to watch/hear these guys compete.

I'm assuming Eddie Lacy is the heir apparent to Trent's RB slot. Is that right? And, his backups?

I would have to assume so, meaning missing the Spring wont be detrimental. We know he starts but the slots behind him will be determined through the spring. Fowler and Hart will play but in which order behind Lacy and then does Yeldon make a move or get redshirted?

As for Carter, I don't know yet. Keep waiting to see him only to hear about setback after setback. Billingsley surprised me as well because I thought this year he would have a chance of seeing lots of PT, maybe even a start or two.

Tyler Love= bust

I don't think that is a fair analysis.

His first year on campus he spent under a medical redshirt. He was an active contributor his second and was able to contribute somewhat his third year. Last year he was right in the mix to back up Vlachos, but an injury put him on the sidelines, again.

Did he live up to his five-star billing? We really can't answer that because he wasn't able to progress through the system like other players.

A player loses half of his eligibility—up until this point—due to injury and he's labeled a bust? No, that's is far from a fair analysis.

I came across this picture this morning and I'd have to go back to game highlights to see if I have this right.

Do you guys remember the fake kick against LSU during the BCSNC? Look at the left side of our line. FWIW, Undra wore number 86.

He was about to be burnt again yes, if the pitch would have been a half second later that play goes for alot. He was extremely lucky that the pitch was when it was and he was able to fall back into the tackle. Honey Badger will be exposed alot this year. Now that teams saw how in the NCG that if you throw right at him and over him his height kills him. For most of the season teams were afraid to throw at him for some reason.

Matt, do you see Barkevious Mingo signaling we didn't make it? I flipped back one page to see if he was captured in that first picture.

He was, but what I noticed there was the blocking by Fluker. DJ has sealed that end; textbook.

So, what's the deal with Duron Carter? Is this still a transcript issue or is there something else going on?

He is in school. It is definitely something more than transcript issues. He was suspended right before bowl preperations began and his status hasn't changed. I may not be going out on a limb here, but I think Carter may never see the field.

Matt alerted me to what BOL was reporting a few hours ago. Most of the guys I know are on the defensive side of the ball. One guy I have a lot of faith in, that isn't part of the the team but very close to Coach Saban, says DC's chances are "slim to none."

Time to move on. It's a shame, really. Just a few weeks ago Groh was talking to the same guy about how much DC could impact our offense. Oh well...there's a reason I put up another thread about people saying "we need a big guy to replace Julio if we are going to win another ring."

We didn't. It would have been nice having his size on the field though.

Terry, I had a feeling that the other thread you started dealt with DC. It is a shame that a kid with the size and skills that he possesses can't seem to get right! A big target on the outside would be nice, but we know Saban will not sacrifice any rules to win a game!
