With both five-star guard Collin Sexton and four-star guard John Petty committing to Alabama on Thursday night, Alabama now sits at the No. 3 spot in the 247Sports Team Rankings, the highest class the men’s basketball program has signed in the recruiting service era. The Tide signed the No. 8 class in 2011.

The two elite guards join a class that already signed four-star forward Alex Reese and three-star forward Herb Jones and three-star center Galin Smith.

Avery Johnson’s class trails just Arizona and Washington for the top spot, as he enters his second year as head coach of the Crimson Tide.

One of the things about an early signing period is rankings released right now really don't carry a lot of weight. IE: Some of these guys still have their senior year left to play even though they've signed.

Petty is one of those kids that can easily change things. He's close to a 5 star on a few ranking sites and I believe he's still listed as one on ESPN. If he continues to improve and has a good year?

This is huge and Avery deserves huge props. ESPN was a glow talking about Bama last night and it wasn't all football. Bama was the talk of signing day and by all accounts signed the best offensive player of the class in Sexton, he av aged over 30 a game in summer leagues which is more competitive than high school by far.

We are in the top 5 in recruiting in basketball and with being all over ESPN we could be the new "hot team" for these southern recruits!

awesome job Avery! Lets help him keep the ball rolling and tell every Bama fan you know how awesome this is and let's start packing out Coleman with a fired up crowd. If we can get everyone to Jump on at the right time we can ride this a long way.

Talk it up with everyone you know and make sure it makes it back, how fired up we are about it.! Roll Damn Tide!!

I am not a big basketball fan but this warms my heart. There is no reason for Bama not to have championship caliber teams in EVERY sport. I may was a couple games this year. RTR

While we certainly want to win these, some horrendous basketball is played from now through the holidays. Even Kentucky, while winning, looked lackluster.Watching Kansas andIndiana now, and it is surprisingly well played for the time of the year.

Remarkable to me was Coach Ellis' words and body language at the half. He spoke as if he was down by ten, and he was soon after the break. This is not, is not, last year's team. Cannot wait to see the Tide play Oregon.

Speaking of ugly, early games @psychojoe UTC beat Tennessee last night, and it wasn't really any contest. I think UT had four assists. Granted UTC has everyone returning from a 29-6 team (projected SO Con player of the year was injured in December last season and is back), but that orange team is pretty awful. UTC plays North Carolina tomorrow. I...CAN...NOT...WAIT!!! I ran at UTC when Gerald Wilkins played.

I barely had heard of Sexton kid 48hrs ago, now I'm convinced that he can be the player to take Bama BB Program to unprecedented places. Hopefully he'll be around for more than a year or two.
