🏈 TID, from HogSportstalk.com, predicts the West...

1. Alabama (10-2 Overall and 7-1 SEC) - The Tide will have an early test in Atlanta against Virgina Tech and with an inexperienced quarterback we believe the Tide will lose a close heart breaker. Now hold on Tide faithful, it gets better. Arkansas comes to Tuscaloosa 3 weeks later (after the Tide wins the Sun Belt of course) for the first SEC game of the year and Bama should win a great match up. The only road game that appears to be a problem is Ole Miss on October 10th and this game may very well decide who goes to Atlanta for the SEC championship. Home games versus Tennessee and LSU are always tough for Bama, but Nick Saban has to breathe a sigh of relief because they are in Tuscaloosa. The season always ends with Auburn and the Tide will hold up a second finger along side the middle one that has pointed toward the Plains since last year. Screw the THUMB! Auburn better get ready to fear the fist of Saban for many years to come. The Bottom Line - Alabama wins the west and goes to Atlanta once again.

A pretty sound projection in my opinion.

Don't hesitate to register over there...good rival forum.

I like the sound of that Terry
I still think we beat v.tech with mcelroy named mvp of the game

I thought about bringing that up...but, didn't.

I have a problem with people saying we lose to Va. Tech because of an inexperienced QB but not taking into account how horrible the QB play at Va. Tech was last year when it came to the passing game.

I don't see them running on us with much success. And, their passing game was in the 100's (national rankings) last season.

Thanks for the link! Will be curious to see his East predictions. Has the West going 27-21. Assuming he has UF at 8-0, that leaves 13 wins to divide among the other 5. I have it 25-23 West and 23-25 East. Would be 24-24 both ways , but I picked his Hawgs to beat the UGA Dawgs in Fayetteville.

I think people tend to forget about Matt Flynn at LSU. If I'm correct, Flynn technically never started until his senior year and they did just fine with little experience from him.

Really??!!??

I think UGA is going to be stronger than most think this year.

I honestly wonder if there is a better linebacking corps than what they are going to field this year.

Do you think their lb group is as good as ours or Florida's?

Yes, I do.

I do think Spikes is the best linebacker in the SEC. But, I also think Rennie Curran isn't far behind him.

Darryl Gamble is a guy I'd love to have in Crimson...and Dent isn't too far behind Gamble.

If all of these guys returned next year they'd be the best LBer corps in the nation.

Georgia is going to have a good defense next year. It's overlooked right now IMO...but, I'll stand behind that statement until I'm proven wrong.

Do you think this is a black-out worthy contest for the Bulldogs, Terry? Oklahoma State probably isn't used to black uniforms and fans dressed in black and it may frighten them and give Georgia the ability to win the game.

Any advantage needed to be taken in today's football climate, go for it. If black uniforms inspire your players, why in the world not try it again?

I was talking with Isra (firestorm) yesterday via IM when Georgia was playing their softball game.

They were wearing all black and my first comment was "Georgia is in black, chalk up a win for Washington."

Georgia lost.

It's hard to say a team is going to be "the surprise" when they should finish second in the East. But, like I said earlier, I'm standing behind that.

I say that in reference to people saying the loss of Stafford and Moreno mean their team is going to be average.

Well Terry, agreed in the fact that their LB unit is pretty tough and fast, maybe their D is gonna be ranked at the top of the conference. You said it, Rennie Curran is one of the - three or five - best defensive players in the whole conference (love him since his freshman year), Geno Atkins returns and look for Justin Houston to be a puss-rush force out of the edge. Talking about the ofensive side on the field, I liked what I saw on Joe Cox at G-Day as a manager signal-caller, Caleb King's got a tremendous potential and everybody knows the kind of player AJ Green is...

In resume, it's pretty solid your projection on the Bulldogs Terry.

Terry, I loved the description the VT guy gave for our LBs.. "Neanderthal size with Carl Lewis speed!" I tend to agree with everyone else here, the first one to 20 wins game one.

BIG PROBLEM with that. Game is in Stillwater!

The Hokie fan who wrote that blog entry made a comment on another forum that included a little jewel I wasn't aware of.

One of his concerns was their linebacking corps. By the tone of what he was saying it reminded me a lot of how we were wondering how ours would come together the past couple of off-seasons.

Just a brief glance at their defense shows a team with a lot of experience up the middle, surrounded by a lot of youth on the outside.

The concern I've had with our offense next season has been in the middle of the line. Which, given how this matchup looks on paper, very well may be critical.

It does make me wonder how he comes up with an assessment of -

Early point-spread: ‘Bama-4.5
Odds on VT winning: 45%.
Early prediction:‘Bama out-gains us, but we turn the all-world rookie ‘Bama Qb over 2-3 times and steal one down in the Georgia Dome in a game that will be Rated-R for hard-hitting violence from both sides.

Wow! Now, I'm feeling the pressure. I have not written the SEC East predictions yet.

I am planning to post them on Monday.

I believe you guys are going to do very well once again and play Florida. I hope you know I want you to beat Virgina Tech too. At this point, I just could not bring myself to write 12-0 or even 11-1. I hope Bama proves me wrong though.
