Alabama lands state’s top-ranked 2022 prospect

The top-ranked player in Alabama for the Class of 2022 is now committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

Thompson defensive end/outside linebacker Jeremiah Alexander announced his commitment to Alabama Monday afternoon.



Alexander is rated as the second-best weak-side defensive end and ninth-best overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Alexander had seven tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, a sack and two fumble recoveries during Thompson’s win over Central-Phenix City in the Class 7A state championship game in December.

“That boy is great,” Central-Phenix City offensive tackle and Alabama signee Javion Cohen said after the game of Alexander. “He added a lot of weight, which he showed me on the first play and I had to get right with him. Yeah, he’s a great player – really strong, really physical, really versatile. He’ll be one of the best players in the country for years to come.”

Alexander is Alabama’s first commit for its 2022 recruiting class.

Alexander is excited to get to work with David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea.

“The thing that really shocked me is them saying how they had a running back go from a 4.39 to a 4.29 a month later,” Alexander says. “And they also talked about quads and hamstrings, and how they’re supposed to be even, strength-wise.

"One is a doctor and the other is a strength coach. I’ve never seen that type of approach before, and I’m excited to see what they can do.”
