šŸˆ This season is shaping up to perfectly define why "conference champions" should have no bearing in playoff selections.

And, a good reason to continue having divisions in college football's P5 schools as well.

Out of the P5 conferences, any one of three potential games that could be upsets would put teams with three and four losses in the playoffs IF this notion about conference champs deserve an invitation continues.

Hypothetically...

A Pitt upset in the ACC would mean a four loss team in the playoff. Pitt is currently 5-4.
A Northwestern win in the B1G would mean the same thing--NW is currently a four loss team.
If the Utes were to beat Wazzou in the PAC CG it would mean a three loss team is in.

None of these scenarios are likely with the committee's focus being on the best four teams. But, if we end up going down the path we see some continue to suggest do we really want to see the playoffs "dumbed down" to the same extent we're seeing the bowl games become irrelevant? A four loss team in the playoffs, even if it were eight teams, would certainly do that.

I still like that that there are divisions
The family that lives across the street from me...father is a huge WVU fan, alum, booster, you name the role and he fits. This is a subject I want to bring up to him but considering it's WVU vs OU in this scenario I'm hesitant--hate to step on toes that are as sore are his are over these last few years.

The point of saying that is this...

What the hell happens with the Big 12 from a fans perspective? I'm looking at WVU and OU in the drivers seat for the Big 12 title. They'll play one week and a win would give WVU the season champions position and a loss one week later makes them...

Makes them what? Does their last game against OU mean nothing? They theoretically could tank it and still win the Big 12 if they win the Big12 CG, right? No playoff for either team, but a conference championship in this scenario really rings hollow to me. It's just weird.
