Lately, there's been a surge of things happening around here that I don't like.
Loud stereos at all hours (early morning, late at night...even after 10:00pm or even later). And I'm not talking cars riding around. At least they're moving and the sound will eventually be gone after a few seconds. No! I'm talking people just sitting in their cars, in their driveway, with the stereo cranked up enough causing my windows to shake and rattle.
People not stopping for the stop sign in front of my house. I live on the corner of a T intersection and there's a stop sign at this end of my road where you're supposed to stop before you turn left or right. But a lot of people don't stop for it. And there are small kids living on this street and in this neighborhood.
Idiots riding a 4-wheeler down my street and throughout the neighborhood. They even ride it on one of the main roads with a 40mph speed limit.
Other idiots racing down my street after they make the corner in front of my house. They make the turn, get straightened up, then floor it and get well above the 20mph speed limit. I'm talking probably around the 40-50mph range before they get to the stop sign at the other end.
But things are about to change...
My mom is good friends with our mayor. So she called him today and told him what was going on. He told her she's not the first one to call about every one of those situations. He told her he'd just got through talking with the police chief about it and he told her there will be more of a police presence in this and other neighborhoods. Also, he said they were installing cameras at certain intersections to watch for that stuff. They're basically red light cameras (even though most of the intersections they'll be at have no lights), but they'll serve another purpose. They'll have the ability to read license plates and determine if the vehicle has been reported stolen or was involved in a crime. And if it has, it will tag it (plate, color of vehicle, direction of travel) and send it to the police.
I've met him a couple times. He's a good man (has a nice family, owns a business here in town, goes to church every Sunday) and just wants people to follow the rules. And if they can't, then they don't need to be a part of decent public.
