It was already a thing. The ADL listed it in their list of symbols in September of last year. Watchmen came out in October. It was all a 2017 hoax by 4chan to prove how gullible people are in getting them to believe it was related to white supremacists. And everyone has fallen for it so hard that the ADL and media are screaming about it now.

It was this "woke culture" who fell for the troll and are on the forefront of "that's white supremacy." It's origin, both in the 4chan sense and the decades old game...1 in 20 claiming racism don't know 4chan exist. And I'm being very generous.
