It’s been a long time since Alabama has added a Rose Bowl trophy to the trophy collection (1946 to be exact). It’s about the only major bowl trophy or individual trophy/award that isn’t displayed in the football building commemorating the Saban years. Sorta like the last infinity stone...

2009 was played at the Rose Bowl, but it wasn't the Rose Bowl. Alabama took home a much cooler trophy, but Ohio State took home the Rose Bowl trophy a week or so earlier when they beat Oregon.

After 2005 the BCS decided to add a fifth game. Many assumed they would add either the Citrus Bowl or Cotton Bowl to the line up, but instead they came up with the method of having the national championship as its own game instead of being hosted by one of the original BCS Bowl games.

It was a slimy ploy to ensure the Sugar, Rose, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls made double income in one season. For instance, the Rose Bowl committee and the city of Pasadena made millions when Oregon played Ohio State in the Rose Bowl in 2009, and millions more just a week later when Alabama played Texas.
