Purely my point of view on thisā
The Tide played in Gainesville in 2011. We won't have another game there until 2021. To put that in a little perspective Jon Solomon pointed out yesterday there will be three presidential elections and five Olympics between those dates. Or, let's look at this from another perspective (H/T to Ivan Maisel.) Mizzou and A&M, from the Big12, right, will play each other this fall. If you have a kid in the 1st grade this year they'll be starting college when Mizzou visits A&M again.
Several months ago we had a pretty in depth conversation about the implications of what this type of schedule would mean and I kept pointing out how much I didn't like having trips like these happen over a decade apart. I think it was @252BAMA that broke down the differences between a 6-1-2 format versus the 6-1-1.
How important is a ninth game? Here's my point...it's basically taken the SEC and divided it up into two conferences.
(A thought to chew on...we schedule a neutral site game with Va Tech again and we'll have ended up playing them more often than six of the seven teams in the East.)
With the CFP, the SEC would be wise to split into two conferences. Will be the ONLY way they will EVER get two teams in it.
