I'd add that we also need to play at an elevated level on defense.
If we don't stop Newton, we have to at least low him down considerably in order to win an offensive shoot-out.

Staying ahead of the chains will be important. NO THIRD AND LONGS!!!Taking shots down the field. AUBURN HAS MORE PROBLEMS IN THEIR SECONDARY THAN WE DO!!!Stuff the inside run game of Newton. MSU GAVE US PLENTY OF PRACTICE !!!Contain Newton inside the pocket. USE SIMILIAR SCHEME AS WE DID AGAINST TEBOW!! Make him beat you with his arm. IF THEY MUST THROW, THEY WILL GET CARELESS WITH THE BALL!!

All true but in my opinion, when you are talking about beating Auburn this year, it all begins and ends with playing good, sound defense. Since Rolando McClain won't be available due to his prior engagement with the Oakland Raiders, find a spy that can hang with Cam and I don't think Hightower is the guy. Maybe CJ Mosely? You have to do your best to contain Newton and make sure you keep up with where McCaleb is lined up. He seems to be one of the few weapons that AU can get to the edge and can be used coming out of the backfield.

When it gets right down to it, I am glad we have a coach with a defensive mentality and he will give us the best chance to win the game. Now if the players will execute........

if Alabama plays a B+ game, the barn loses. i think it is important for alabama to start quick and get ahead. the pressure needs to be applied to auburn in this one.

IMO stops are the key. They aren't easy to come by as the Aubies are very efficient on offense. Perhaps we should be in a higher risk mode as far as making big defensive plays go, knowing that if we fail and they score on a long play it just puts their D on the field. I don't think Georgia had any stops after the first quarter.

Alabama needs to play sound assignment defense. Everybody must cover their gaps, slot, area, zone, man, whatever.

Slow methodical drives on offense. Keep the ball away from Auburns offense and keep their D on the field. Whether this is accomplished thru the running game or a short passing game, doesn't really matter. I prefer to get the running game going, but If the short passing game is working, that will be okay to.

One other thing: BAMA is used to having to play in pressure cooker situations. Although the Barn has had a difficult schedule, the schedule also allowed them to play their toughest games at home with the exception of the Iron Bowl. They also will have the weight of having to win on their backs and a lot more than BAMA does for the first time in several years. I'm hoping for a Barn burner personally!

Stay alert to trick plays including on-side kicks, fake punts, and fake field goals.

So so true. I really believe that onside kick in that UGA/AU game shifted the momentum enough it took Georgia completely out of the game. They stole a possession from UGA and made it look easy. Let's not forget they stuck us last time with trickery like that.

The one thing our defense has to do is stay disciplined. They can't blow assignments and if they do $cam will more then likely make us pay. $cam and his RB's play hide the ball very well and it's not hard to lose the player that actually has the ball. The few times UGA's defense played with discipline they knocked $cam on his ass.

Plain and simple, if this team comes out and plays like they did the 1st quarter of last years Iron Bowl, we'll be done. The team has to come out with guns a blaze and willing to lay it all on the line. This time we're the ones with nothing to lose and AU can lose it all with a loss in this game.

RTR!

EDIT: One more thing. We've GOT to keep Fairley off our QB. One way or another, Fairley has to stay off our QB.

 We MUST pressure the QB. No if's,and's or but's . If we can get somebody off the corner on a blitz or somebody up the middle on a delayed blitz, we can screw them up. I have watched several of their games and i just dont see $cam beatn us with his arm. He's too inconsistent. And the way Lester has been playn,he could have a field day.:nutkick:
