No doubt. In the late 50's he bought something like 25 years worth of all advertising on his show from Channel 6, and proceeded to never break for a recorded commercial. Instead, the whole show was interspersed - liberally - with ads for everything you could imagine viewers who tuned in at daybreak might want. Dobro Dave and the gang.

My Dad bricked his house up above Eastwood Mall* in 1959.

*EDIT: I guess I'm dating myself, using a landmark that wasn't there in 1959, and isn't there now.
