Frozen Tide Hockey v. the barn's miserable, sorry team (or...what it was earlier this year) is this weekend in Pelham. Games are Friday at 8:00, Saturday at 7:00, with a third game Sunday at 2:00. Tix are $10/game (usually $5/game); there will be a large contingent of barner fans in Pelham...Yeah, they'll mostly have left after the second intermission... :D

Coach Q has done a remarkable job recruiting for a D3 (ahem! ahem! ahem! :-)) program. There is a really solid mix of upper classmen and under classmen on this team. Bama's #1 goalie is a sophomore; #2, a freshman; #3, a sophomore...They're outstanding!

The barn lost to Arkansas this year 29 - 0...Yeah, 29 - 0. That was their Friday night game; the barn forfeited the accompanying Saturday game. Since the semester began, the barn supposedly has added a number of players. The advertising message is that Bama is in for a dogfight this weekend.

Bama has never lost to the barn in hockey. Nine games, nine wins (This is the barn's fourth season). Last year, the Saturday game was a narrow 3 - 0 win. Every other game has been a double-digit blowout.

Get there early. The Pelham Civic Center will be PACKED! RFTR!

RFTR!

This was a different game. The barn picked up eight players over the Christmas break; they actually had their record up to 5 - 6. Not only has Bama never lost to the barn, but they have also never trailed the barn. That almost changed in the 1st. Once Bama moved inside their blue line, the barn started hitting and doing a really good job with their back checks. Bama had three power plays in the 1st...Nada...The barn had a breakaway, but fortunately, their player shot the puck right at Greenier. The 1st ended 0-0.

Bama opened up a can in the second, which ended 6 - 1. Bama started with a crap goal, but after the 1st...okay. From there...BAM! Captain Clay Link even scored a penalty shot. Bama poured it on in the 3rd adding three more goals in a matter of 2:10. The barn changed keepers and started playing defense again.

Bama coulda/woulda/shoulda won this game 18 - 1 (the barn's first goal was legit...Nice one-timer from near our blue line). Gotta do a better job of capitalizing on scoring chances.

Tonight, some American Idol singer, Jessica Muese (?), is singing the national anthem.

The Iron Cup is going back to Tuscaloosa...Where it lives, of course. For the fourth straight year (the four years the barn has had a program), Bama once again dominates.

Bama owned this game from beginning to end. The only hiccup occurred in the second when Bama was up 4 - 0 ~ the 11:00 mark; the barn tallied two in a minute. A few minutes later, Bama went on a rampage, scoring three in a couple of minutes. The final one occurring on a wicked slap shot from Sana.

I guess they let anyone drop the puck...

Yeah, that's me. I was representing the Shelby County Alumni Association. To my left is the American Idol top 4 girl, Jessica...Something. She sang the national anthem. She does have a really nice voice.

Game three is tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. RFTR!

Dropped it. To tell you the truth, I dropped it so I wouldn't have to deal with the (moral) dilemma of having to choose between throwing it at the barner captain and the American Idol girl. I'll just say she's a good singer and leave it at that.

Your pics are clearly better than mine. I'm very glad Frenkel won the MVP. He was lights out all weekend.

The refs played WAY too large of a role in this game. Refs are not supposed to be at the center of the game. There were times in the second period when both teams' penalty boxes looked like clown cars. The barn was able to take advantage of that and close the gap to 6 - 5 (it was 6 - 2). The refs got out of the way in the 3rd, and Bama exploded for six more. Weekend total: 31 - 9
