🏈 The First SEC Decade Without a Bama Championship?

Will this be the first decade without a Bama SEC Championship? From the Thirties through 1999, Bama has at least on SECC to show for each passing decade (even the Fifties). If it happens this decade, it happens next year.

Yes or no?

That we will win it next year. :D

I honestly don't think we'll get it.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but 2009 will not be as good as 2008.

I think we have a great chance to win 9 or 10 games, but I don't see an SEC championship next year.

It goes without saying...I'm hope I'm TOTALLY wrong!! :D

It's always tough to repeat an undefeated regular season, but where do you see the drop off for next year?

We have an easier schedule. The defense will be as strong, if not stronger. Do you think O-line and QB play will decline enough to cost us two or three games? Or do you think the stars were in perfect alignment regarding injuries and key plays, and we had a charmed existence that's unlikely to repeat?

Not arguing, just curious.

On the surface, I see an issue with the O-line...and quarterback.

As much as we like to throw JPW under the bus, he had a great senior season, and more importantly he was "game seasoned" in terms of learning the speed of a defense...etc.

I felt comfortable with JPW b/c no matter how bad he's played in the past...he's PLAYED! He had valuable game experience that no amount of practice can give you.

Greg and/or Star don't have the on the field experience. Greg has played, but he never played when the game was on the line; or on the road with 90,000 fans on your back.

Every team that seizes the national stage has a proven QB. Our lack of one...will hurt. Not saying Greg/Star aren't talented, but they just don't have the game experience. Especially the SEC game experience.

Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow are priceless assets to OK and UF and you see where they are...

The only way we can overcome our lack of QB experience, is to have an BOULDER of an O-line and a defense that allows nothing. ...Just like '92.

MANY things were exposed against Utah, and I personally don't see '09 being as good as '08.

In respect to the stars being in order for '08...they were. We played above our ability, and we got lucky in many areas. IE, injuries during the course of the season...etc.

The Saban "process" is like nothing else in college football, however, as the season goes along it becomes more and more difficult to maintain the self-discipline and mental attitude that goes along with the process.

In retrospect, it's almost like the 2008 season was one game too long. We peaked in the Iron Bowl, played hard against UF...and then "the process" took its toll against Utah.

You know when people say, "if I eat another piece of pizza I'll die!"

Well, the Sugar Bowl was more "pizza" than we could handle.

The "process" is great, but I'm not sure it can honestly last an entire season.

Saban expects so much and everyone is at such a HIGH LEVEL, that it's almost impossible to maintain that level from start to finish.

Just my thoughts...

RTR!!

I am sure that we will see others try what Utah used so successfully against us, but I'd bet my last dollar that our staff will have us prepared for something of that nature.

We had a certain amount of luck in 2008, especially WRT injuries, but the real key to our success was how hard these guys worked to prepare themselves and condition themselves. That kind of work ethic had us very close to playing for the national championship, even with a talent level that among upper classmen was only average. Utah taught us that when we abandoned what made us successful (hard work and prepartion) we were not that good. If we apply that lesson we will be just fine in 2009.

Virginia Tech is a tough opener, and after what we did to Clemson in the 2008 opener we will not catch them by surprise. Still, there is no reason, should we stick to our knitting, for us not to be very successful next year. There is no road trip to Georgia, and Arkansas, Tennessee and LSU all must come to Tuscaloosa. That trip to Ole Miss is one that could well determine the SEC West winner. I feel comfortable in predicting ten wins and another trip to the SEC CG.
