1.Full acceptance of the process by the players.
2.Freshman with a goal.
3.Our O-Line and D-Line is here in full force.
4. We're a new BAMA, plain and simple.
Things look a lot brighter for this UGA game, and we went into OT against them last year with an incomplete team. As far as initiative and experience in key areas were concerned, we just didn't have it. I have an uncanny feeling about this game and this season. Expect an unreal game that we haven't seen in a long time... Roll Flippn' Tide!!!IT'S KOOL-AID TIME!!!!
Another year in a real (perhaps I should say mandatory) S&C program has been helpful too. As far as the D-Line, we have more size which is very beneficial in Saban's system. The depth is obviously better too.
Our run defense has been great. Cody has far and away exceeded anything I thought he'd do. He is a phenom of sorts IMO. He disrupts the middle and forces teams to take it outside... and we might not have much experience at LB, but we have speed. As long as those cats wrap up, nobody is going to consistently move the chains on us via a ground game.
Woodall is a great example of Saban and Smart getting the most out of the players. Under Shula, Woodall would likely still be a raw player and noting more than a guy who looked good in a uniform. Saban & Co. have finally got his light turned on. He not only is picking up the defense, but he has become a very physical presence in the defensive backfield. Kudos to him for his hard work.
Knocking on wood... we are also very healthy at this point in the season. It is a team that can't afford injuries at most positions, so this has been important and will continue to be important as the season wears on.
On offense, we have a stable of backs that can do it all. We can rotate guys in without losing a step, and punish defenses late in games when they get tired. That is something we haven't been able to do in a long time. Auburn made a living off of it in recent years. Really makes you wonder why they got away from it. Ingram brings a hard nosed physical style that we have missed in recent years. Even with poor blocking he's going to pick up 2 or 3 yards. Behind Andre and Johnson, he's going to be good for an average of 5 or 6.
We have a group of playmakers at WR, not just one guy named Prothro or one guy named Hall. They haven't had to do to much yet, but they will be counted on real soon as teams start to stack the box, and they've got the talent to come though big time as long as JPW can make the plays.
When our OL is healthy, the starting 5 are tough to beat. Lets hope they stay healthy.
Our KO team is not as good as last year, but the staff has been making changes trying to get it where it needs to be. They have taken away some speed and added some size. Some problems still persisted even after the change. IMO, it is more of an issue of guys just needing to stay in their lanes, and assignment thing. I think they'll get it fixed. The rest of the special teams has been spectacular up to this point.
