Such potential as a prototypical pro-style QB with a cannon arm and all the size and measurables. Yet he never could crack the rotation. He transfers to Nevada to the cheers and high expectations of fans. After all, they saw him throw for 300 yds in 1 half of their spring game, and was the leader headed into fall camp. But, he got passed up somehow. So he abruptly leaves after only a couple of games into the season.

QB David Cornwell, formerly of Alabama, leaves the Wolf Pack

Well, apparently he can't stay away from Tuscaloosa, because he was spotted this morning with whom one would assume would be his obvious long-time girlfriend from here. Either he's here just visiting her, or he's here trying to become GA, maybe? Either way, there's no indication that he's trying to further his playing career somewhere. It appears he's giving up on playing.

He was an interesting case. One of those cases where the physical tools make it possible to overlook his actual high school career. He played as few snaps as any HS QB I think I'd ever seen... Due to injuries and transfers.

QB's are such a tough case cause you never know until they get thrown in the fire. Good luck to him

Spot on!! The QB position is the hardest position on the field to evaluate when it comes to offering up scholarships. I've tried explaining this to one of my cousins but it is like talking to a post!! Saban likes to see them throw in his camp with some pressure added to the mix. Don't just send me a highlight tape with all the TDs and yards!!! Got to see how you react to some pressure. Having all of the measurables isn't the entire story. Cornwell definitely had that but limited experience due to injuries and transfers. Barnett had them as well. It really is a crapshoot!!

This is why I don't mind taking a flyer on a lesser star player when it comes to QBs. Stats show that about one in four elite QBs actually makes it to starter/star status at their school of choice. About 50 % of these guys will transfer out. Those are crazy numbers that will grow as the millennials and their instant gratification goals continue to take root.

The thing on Bateman was....if I remember correctly..was he was one of fastest players on team...decent arm..good head...
In that ole ms game....we lost...there were times ole miss was not even concerned about qb run .... I know it all worked out....but i always wondered why he didnt use that speed...

Bateman wasn't a physical player and he never came close to using those feet in the spread. I just took it he didn't like contact. He ain't the first.

I def. wouldn't call his arm "strong" either. The Ole Miss game with the read option was so frustrating. There were multiple times even the commentators pointed out that the defensive ends/outside backers were not respecting the QB run on those plays at all. Bateman was just either too scared or not confident enough to pull it.

I think it was hinted that he was going to pursue coaching prior to him leaving Tuscaloosa.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cornwell ends up a GA.
When word, or call it rumor, came out he was thinking of transferring I mentioned his plans to pursue coaching as one reason he might choose to stay in Tuscaloosa even though he's not playing. I was under the impression is was a consideration although I can't tell you how much of one. I remember his girlfriend coming into play as well as the desire to at least get a chance to play QB.

I know how it is when a girlfriend comes into play..one of the reasons i ended up at LaTech...lol
It's funny to me because a lot were slobbering over Barnett's girl at the same time.

As to Cornwell...all this talk made me go back and look. There's a handful of pictures here.
