| FTBL The arguement fielded AGAINST Bama

Guest

Last season Bama was a team that finished the regular season 6-6, winning the cupcake games that most teams would have at the beginning of the season but falling horribly when test by real teams at the end of the season. Heck, falling also to ULM. As for that impressive win against Tennessee, well now we see that for what it was worth. Good thing it wasn't Wyoming instead of the VOLS. Barely even getting into a bowl game, the Tide started their current Nation's Longest Winning Streak by beating the Colorado Buffalos, who had an equally unimpressive year last year, and still a worse year this year. Overall, this is not an impressive Bama team kicking off this season.

Having not yet earned in on the field, Bama was gifted a pre-season #24 ranking. Surely only a nod to the potential of a Saban coached team. As for this schedule it looks like this.

CLEMSON
Impressiveness of this win has made like vapor as CLEMSON has just been handed around as a play thing. So much so that their Coach was fired before the end of the season.

TULANE
Despite a win, this actually is more striking in the negative direction. It was Tulane and at home.

WESTERN KENTUCKY
This was one of those games that a named and favored team can not will in the public eye. Win and it was not by enough. Lose and, well, ULM is proven to NOT be an anomaly.

ARKANSAS
Good thing we are catching the Hogs four games into a completely new system. Everyone know it will take time for the HOgs to compete, even with the likes of Alabama.

GEORGIA
Very impressive, for a couple of weeks, but we see now that Richt's Dawgs are not the world beaters that they were supposed to be. Injuries too more of a toll than we all thought. Honestly, UGA saw this as big game and they choke on big games. They gifted it to BAMA, and almost took it back in the second half. At best, it was only half way beating Georgia.

KENTUCKY
Lets be honest. Bama was supposed to win this one. In the end they did, and in the end failed to make a splash in doing so. At best, this week was a push.

OLE MISS
Frankly, this has to be the most impressive win during these two years...but again beating Ole Miss should not be your two year crowning achievement. Further, it being some level of impressive speaks more to what the Rebels have done than to what Bama has done. It was a good thing this game was at home.

TENNESSEE
Please. Throw this one out lest you class yourself with Wyoming.

ARKANSAS STATE
The only good thing about this is that Bama avoid a ULM for a second year in a row. So Bama is 1-1 against these patsies?

LSU
Time has a way of revealing proper perspective. By comparison, we don't rate up there with Florida and Ole Miss compared to LSU, but fall more in line with Auburn compared to LSU. Auburn?!? The same Auburn that is aiming to not go to a bowl game?

MISSISSIPPI STATE
Thank goodness for MSU. A win was expected, but at least by comparison we were able to recover from being compared on level with Auburn. This one was a Push as well.

So here we are UNDEFEATED, yet what should team would not have been (oddly, FLORIDA). Our time on College Football's Olympus has been more about benefiting from a series of luckily breaks this season than about becoming the most dominating team in country. There are nearly two years worth of games that support that Bama is NOT what the polls show. They catch another lucky break against Auburn coming up, but after that the clock strikes twelve and Cinderella will have to BEGIN proving she is worthy of being Royalty. But until then, Bama is untested and unproven.

UNdefeated That is all that matters. A lot could be said for the 92 team (I know we keep comparing), because they won games in ugly fashion. When the dust settles we will find out. Until then I really could care less what people think about our team and the way they win. Good teams find ways to win even when they play bad. I am already tired of hearing Bama cannot do it and "take a look at your schedule and how the team won games.". I did not know the BCS handed out style points..../shrug

Beat Aubrun

Win out...the rest is taken care of regardless of what people say or think.

You fail to see many things my young padawan learner.

I don't like to brag..

but everybody want's to beat ALABAMA.
It doesn't matter if were at the top
of the list or at the bottom..

It can make a season ( ULM, Auburn, the last few years). " beat bama" is the cry....

The history of Alabama football has done this..

The dominance of Alabama football has done this..

If this team can win out, it will achieve something special..

Coach Saban has turned this team around...
more than I expected this year anyway..

Our defence has always kept us in games.
this year it is playing better ..

Our offence has been anemic in the red zone,
until this year...

The team is finishing games...
The team is stopping the other teams 'star' players...

Improvement has come around this year..
and I expect to see more next year..

we may not go undefeated this year or next year..
but this team , under Saban, can hold their head up..
They haven't layed down this year..

They have brought the PRIDE back to dixie football

ok...enought ramblings from an old cogger..

ROLL TIDE ....BEAT AUBURN

Screw the argument against Alabama. We're the last undefeated team from a BCS conference.

We'll beat both Burnerville U. and Florida, and then everyone can gripe about something else Bama-related.

Whiners.

Hell it does not matter. Even if Bama wins out, the day after the bowl game ESPN will speak about how awesome Ohio State will be.

All due respect, but WHAT A CROCK! Bama is simply LUCKY? WE ARE UNDEFEATED! Gaytors are not, Sooners are not, Longhorns are not, TT, USC, all have been beaten. Where are your excuses for them? Unbelievable that such would come from a Bama "fan".....

Nick Saban has some mason jars on his desk. Three to be exact. One is labeled UGA the other LSU. and the third empty one is labled Auburn. In them are the hearts of each team. Look at the record after the losses to Alabama. Especially LSU. He had a fourth one, Tennessee. But it got rancid and he threw it out.

Actually, that's a great point. Bama absolutely DEFLATED these teams, as well as beating them. Going by what this guy sez, we should throw out the '92 NC.......because we were "just lucky" then too.

LBS, is this not an argument an opposing fan would present? Not your actual opinion? I think some of the ppl on here didn't catch that.

People are making WAY too big a deal over the whole schedule and who's weak and who's strong thing. Alabama's football schedules are made out at least a couple of years in advance, so there is absolutely no way of knowing who is going to be good or bad when we play them. So the whole idea that Bama or any other team for that matter, is not a good team just because some of their opponents turned out to be bad...that just holds no water at all.

Not saying that the author of this post is saying that, but there are some people in the nation of college football who are saying exactly that. It's like winning against mediocre teams is somehow now WORSE than actually losing....and that is frustrating.

I say if you win all your games, you're a pretty damn good team, no matter if you go 12-0 in the SEC or 12-0 in the MAC...a winner by any other name is still a winner.

These are not my thoughts or opinions.

I work with folks from all over the country and these are the points that I have had to counter. (Frankly, it a compliment that some others school's fans have spent this much time obsessing over Bama.)

I see the logic in the direction that they are taking their argument, but I also see them as shallow points easily dismissed to my satisfaction.

One of the points that I like to throw out there for them to chew on is to ask them why the Coaches, who should know more than any of us about how to win or lose a game, have missed what is obvious to the media and continue to overwhelming vote Alabama #1? I add that I would suspect that Nick Saban combined with the Crimson Tide would be the last thing that they would want to help along.

True!

Here's how this opponent sees it.

You play in the SEC. We beat the crap out of each other every week and you guys are undefeated. I for one don't give a rats ass about style points or how bad you beat somebody. The fact is you have won every game. The fact that some of those teams tanked "after" you played them says something as well.

I think the TT-OU game Saturday and the OM-UF game prove that good defense can stop the stupid spread.

I think that you guys did have the ball bounce your way some this year but name me one team that went through a season undefeated and didn't get a couple of breaks.

As I have said on this board before, I don't think this is your year to go undefeated (sure I could be wrong, i.e. 1992) but I certainly see a NC or more coming in the next few years. Again, good for you guys.
