these rumors regarding BJ Scott:
- he's been on crutches all week
- he might be considering transferring USA
- Vigor coaching staff thought BJ was the hottest recruit they ever had, sounds like could be frustrated with how things have gone

Just doing Terry a favor, I've no idea about any of this.

Always felt like BJ Scott was a bit underutilized sadly.

He seems like a great athlete who could never quite fit into a role here. To be honest, a place lhat runs a spread probably wouldve been better for him.

One of the best pure athletes on the team... but just can't seem to find a "home". I wonder is he had stayed at WR from day 1, if he would be getting more PT there... or maybe some looks in the Wildcat (since he can throw). I understand what Saban was trying to do though, and at the time, I thought he'd be a dynamite DB as well.

I'm still trying to figure out why we keep recruiting pro-style, pocket passer QB's, all the while trying to lean only on our ground game for our offense. Someone help me understand why AJ McCarron is THE BEST choice for QB next year, when it's clear that we underutilize our WR's often times, and want to lean on a running game.

Hats off to Saban this year for the effort to balance the offense. Play calling has been very balanced, but the sets and formations, as well as execution, has been mixed in a bad way.

Sorry for the negative rant, but this discussion of Scott at WR makes me wonder why, with pocket passing QB's, a guy like Julio Jones doesn't have TWICE as many catches, yards, TD's, etc.

I think the problem with Burton, is Burton. Anyone on the team will tell you he is the best athlete on the team. He makes things happen, that according to players, are inhuman. I've been told he can do anything on the field and can play either side of the ball. The problem, as described to me, is Burton wants to do things Burton's way, instead of how the coaches tell him to do things. It may just be a matter of being able to break things down without being so technical. Ya know?

Gumbo, I think you may have hit the nail on the head. There are lots of can't miss kids that don't pan out simply because they are not "coachable". I coached high school ball for 13 years and I had several with the ability to go to the next level but couldn't take the coaching to get where they wanted to be.

B.J. Scott, one of the jewels of Alabama's top-ranked 2008 recruiting class, is looking to transfer and may be headed to South Alabama, according to two sources close to the situation.

According to one of the sources, who asked not to be identified, Scott has not yet been granted a release from Alabama, but a transfer could be complete by the end of the week.

The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Scott played in six games this season, recording six tackles and one interception before undergoing season-ending ankle surgery earlier this month. He was working with the first-team defense at cornerback opposite Dre Kirkpatrick in the spring, but was beaten out by junior-college transfer DeQuan Menzie in fall practice and was later passed on the depth chart by freshman Dee Milliner during the season.

Scott played in nine games at receiver as a freshman in 2008, making two catches for 7 yards, before redshirting in 2009 while he switched positions. A five-star prospect coming out of Prichard's Vigor High in 2008, he was listed as the No. 1 athlete prospect in the country and the No. 19 prospect overall by ESPN.com and the No. 4 prospect in the state according to Press-Register's Elite 18.

Scott was one of three five-star prospects in the Crimson Tide's star-studded 2008 recruiting class, joining receiver Julio Jones and offensive tackle Tyler Love. Other members of that class, ranked No. 1 in the country by Rivals.com, included running back Mark Ingram, defensive linemen Terrence Cody and Marcell Dareus, safeties Mark Barron and Robert Lester, linebackers Dont'a Hightower and Courtney Upshaw, and offensive lineman Barrett Jones.

South Alabama, which has a combined 17-0 record in its two-year history, has brought in several transfers from Football Bowl Subdivision Schools, including former Alabama linebacker Charlie Higgenbotham. Others include running backs Brandon Ross (Memphis) and Kendall Houston (Arkansas State), linebacker Jake Johnson (Virginia Tech), tight end Paul Bennett (UAB) and quarterbacks Brennan Sim (Oregon State) and Ray Cotton (Ole Miss).

Since South Alabama will be classified as a Football Championship Subdivision program in 2011, transfers are eligible to play there immediately. The Jaguars will be a full FBS member in the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.

Joey Jones has done one HELL of a job there, hasn't he?

I wonder what he's getting paid...

TP, I have no idea what he is getting paid at USA, but while he was in B'ham going at Mountain Brook High School that he was making over 100k to coach football. He was not required to teach, just coach.

Of course Mountain Brook is not just any old ordinary zip code to call home.
