Since you, Big Fan and a couple of others really get into reviewing teams and the like, I'd love to here your thoughts on Utah now that you've seen them.

I don't think we'll have anyone going pro early this year. I still think they need a year.

We do lose our QB which will hurt, but we will have 4-5 in camp this spring including a JC AA. We also lose 3 WRs, but get back one SR that was suspended for the season plus a few more are back. Including the Reed who out jumped your DB for the 30 yd gain and scored our last TD. Our best RB is also back as are 9 of 11 defensive starters, barring any of them leaving early.

Bama fans where would you rank Utah to start next year?

I don't know too many Bama fans that care to think about Utah right now. I know I don't. I'm thinking about how Alabama continues to stock the cupboards and how the process is unfolding. I'd rather read opinions on Bama's new recruits and future schedules. Get me?

How many players do you have coming back six?

9 starters on defense. We lose one DL and one CB. However, we have a 5 star JC DL coming in to replace him and another highly touted CB that is 6'4 215 to along with Sean Smith who did a nice job on JJ.

On offense we have 5 starters back (I think) plus 4 underclassmen who played significant minutes all season including the Alabama game.

Top Ten.

Where exactly depends on what drives your ranking. Do I think they will be a serious threat for the NC game next year, not really unless that have one loss or less. You still play in a conference that gets little respect. Its the conference at this point, not the Utes.

Consider Alabama. After being ranked Number 1 for a month, they were still projected to be underdogs to five other teams if they faced them in the NC game. The rankings are not a projection of how one thinks the season will end. This works in the Utes favor, since they are still an outsider.

I would compare them to Ole Miss, a very solid team that can beat anyone on any given day. However, a long brutal schedule would prove too much. Keep in mind, Ole Miss beat Florida in Gainsville, so that is not a slap in the face.

That's my thoughts, FWIW.

They drop a couple games next year! That QB will be hard to replace!

#4 or #6

My opinion of Utah hasn't changed.

Rankings?

I have my doubts you'll be in the top 15, in fact I wouldn't be shocked if you are between 20-25.

While Ute fans will want people to look to this season and that have a bearing on where you're ranked to start in the pre-season polls of 2009, they are going to do that and see you losing 3 starting wide receivers, quarterback, running back, your best secondary player, and a few other upper-classmen across the board.

Consider, Boise State finished at what, #5/6 after going undefeated and winning against OU?

The next season their highest ranking came from USA Today/Coaches poll that put them at #23.

I think it is likely that it will be somewhere between 13 and 20.

What is your out of conference schedule like next year.

@ Oregon and San Jose State.
Host Utah State and Louisville.

They will find out pretty early how good they are at Oregon. Don't know about San Jose State, Utah State is "little sister". I'd expect them to kick the 'ville around.

San jose state and utah state are Wac bottom feeders you can figure that out! and louisville well Krapthorpe well has stunk as a coach so there is three wins! or atleast it should be! There toughest games will prob. be TCU,BYU,Oregon! JMHO!

I love the fact that we come to you Alabama fans for validation even after the Utes kicked the crap out of your team. I feel like a that little brother that beats his big brother for the first time in basketball, and even though he just beat him, he still needs his big brother to tell him how good he is. You have taught us Utah fans a lot over the past few weeks. I am grateful for your hospitality. I hope we can schedule a home/home with you guys in the future (although I know that it is incredibly unlikely). Thanks for playing great hosts.

Go UTES!!! See you in 2010?

washute,

As you can tell, I live in Georgia and work with a host of Georgia and Ga. Tech people. I was expecting the usual after a loss but I have to say, most of the Dawgs and Jackets were more complimentary of Utah than bashing BAMA. We all see things from a partisan point of view so, from an outsiders perspective, Utah made a very good impression on a lot of folks. I don't think you will ever be overlooked by anyone in the near future (disadvantage: Utah!) How that translates into the polls? I think you will fare well with the AP voters who don't do their homework. Replacing a Brian Johnson is like Alabama trying to replace Andre Smith. It sounds easy until you try it. You also lose two key assistants and where the HC position is indeed very important, it's the job of the assistants to make him look good.

I say you come in around #14-ish.

Quite frankly, I would just be curious, this year, to watch you guys play either UF or OU. I think you would give a challenge personally.
