⚾ 🥎 Tennessee's Tony Vitello leaves Vols for SF Giants job /// Gators baseball coach O'Sullivan is a prick, Part XVIII

Good. Anything that hurts the Vols is good. I have a difficult time wrapping my mind around why SF would want him, but I guess it’s worth the gamble. Certainly outside of the box thinking by Buster Posey who targeted him. And I don’t say this because I think the guy is a prick, but I do think he was (is) overrated as a baseball coach/manager. He is an excellent recruiter. And a good evaluator, IMO. He’s also a good developer, IMO… but just as an overall HC, to me he wasn’t any batter than about 2 dozen other guys at the college level. But, maybe his style will translate well to the majors and I’ll be wrong. If I were betting on it though, within 3 years he’s done in SF and has his pick of college jobs again.

His attitude won't bode well in the majors. Too many others that will challenge him with that same mentality and ego. Much the same reason I did not figure Saban would work in the NFL. The pro leagues have allowed the players too much power, and they run the show.

It's time for the Alabama baseball program to be a consistent CWS contender every year! Our last appearance was in 1999, that has to end. I believe Vaughn will get is to that point. I'm glad Tennessee just lost Vitello, because he got them to the pinnacle and probably would have again at some point. That's what I want for this baseball program. Roll tide.

Vaughn has potential to get us back to Omaha with his long-ball approach. Unfortunately there's other variables that hold Alabama up. We don't have a lottery; we don't pay a shit ton in NIL; our fan support is pretty mid compared to other programs (due to lack of success after Wells).

If Vaughn has success and stays, then everything but a lottery can improve. Oats changed the trajectory of the basketball program and now he is getting an NBA-like practice arena.

The expanded scholarships is pretty much going to nullify the lottery issue. The problem that will remain is schools like LSU, UT, Arky, etc. throwing more NIL and cash around than UA will... but the 34 full scholarships is going to be a tremendous help for Bama. And as Vaughn continues to improve his developmental track record an put guys in the pros (like Oats has) that'll only help.

I am completely unaware of the 34 scholarship deal. I thought that was held up due to Title IX. If that takes into effect, then fuck yes.

The other SEC baseball Prick is in the news too...
It would take a miracle to change my impression of him: he's an asshole.

I have to pause for a second with him when I hear "family situations." While I believe he's a piece of shit for messing around on his last wife I have to take into account the things he and his current wife have been through the last several years. I mean, hell. Having two of your kids murdered isn't something one can just "get over." At least, I wouldn't think so...

No doubt, that's pretty terrible and unimaginable. That being said, you would think this would ground an individual and teach them to respect others because the next day is unknown.

Family also includes wife. Murdered kids, if I recall correctly, by ex-husband. I'd have to look the story up again...it was in 2023, I believe, when Florida passed some legislation behind the story.

And no. I wouldn't think that having two kids murdered would somehow ground a person more than they were.

You think it turns them into bigger assholes? The main point was the guy was a terrible person before and a not great one after, so what does the death of his kids really mean in the scheme of it all? he treated his wife badly and treats others badly.
