When is the last time a college coach made the jump to MLB? You normally don't see it.

To be the actual manager? I can't recall, I'm sure it's happened. Tim Corbin's name has been mentioned some in recent years but I don't know how serious it ever was. But in this case, Buster Posey who now the DF Pres of Ops, had targeted Vitello early and I think just had to convince the rest of the organization (and maybe Vitello to a degree).
