Despite committing to Alabama during the program’s latest A-Day spring game, four-star 2019 quarterback prospect Taulia Tagovailoa continues to explore his options. According to comments he made following his pledge to the Crimson Tide, it sounds like Tennessee finished a close second to Alabama when he decided to pull the trigger on his scholarship offer from the Tide.

While his brother is arguably the biggest star in the state of Alabama at this point, aside from Nick Saban of course, Taulia may still have lingering thoughts about joining Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee program. According to multiple reports, first reported by John Brice of Gridiron Now, the younger Tagovailoa brother plans to visit Knoxville once again this weekend.

The Tagovailoa family is currently involved in an interesting situation, as Tua is currently competing for the starting job in Tuscaloosa against Jalen Hurts. This offseason, Tua admitted he might have transferred had he not participated in the National Championship Game last season. Those comments are compounded by remarks made by Hurts’ father suggesting his son will also potentially transfer from Alabama if he doesn’t win the starting quarterback job in Tuscaloosa.

It will be fascinating to see how all these pieces fall into place this fall and the ramifications that could follow.

Following Taulia’s commitment to Alabama, he did make some interesting comments suggesting his recruitment would not shut down completely. Here’s what the four-star prospect had to say when asked if he planned to take official visits before signing in December.

ā€œThat’s another thing me and my family have to talk about… We’ll have to see,ā€ Tagovailoa said back in April.

He also added these complimentary statements regarding Tennessee’s coaching staffs during the same interview.

ā€œI really like Tennessee with Brian Niedermeyer and Coach Pruitt and them. They are really good to me every time I visit over there,ā€ Tagovailoa added. ā€œThey are also good to our guys. I really like Tennessee.ā€

Taulia Tagovailoa recently competed in the national Elite 11 Final competition, which is an annual high school quarterback competition that starts at the regional level and decides an Elite 11 MVP at The Opening Finals every July. He earned an invitation to The Opening Finals, an honor that went to only 12 quarterbacks in the nation.

Among those to watch him throw during the Elite 11 Finals was Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network. Here’s what the former NFL scout had to say about the younger Tagovailoa brother after watching him throw in person for the first time.

ā€œI was more focused on the college kids but I did see Tua’s little brother throw… I did see Tua’s little brother throw, and it looks like a right-handed version of Tua. He has a live arm. He’s got that same square, thick build, the ball jumps out of his hand,ā€ Jeremiah said last week during an interview with WJOX 94.5 FM.

The 5-foot-11, 203-pound Tagovailoa is rated as the No. 7 pro-style passer in the nation by 247Sports Composite Rankings. He holds offers from Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Oregon and FAU among others.

Meh, he's doing what he's supposed to do. If he ends up there, that's his prerogative and good for him; next man up, etc. If he ends up here, all the better. He shouldn't feel obligated to attend UA just because of his brother.

Lia said he was going to take his visits and this one has always been on the agenda. I was actually surprised he committed to us as soon as he did. If he continues to stay that transparent we will be fine.

@TerryP Saw where we offered another 2019 qb and read where it was supposed to be a nudge to Tualia to solidify his commitment. Then I read that crazy story on that qb and how his "coach" was building him up on the LSU recruiting page. These were the "coach's" words

"Let me Break it down:

Bama has 3 scholarship QBs on the roster.

Coach Saban said they expect 1 to transfer.

They have 2 current commitments for 2019. They expect that 1 might flip.

That opens not 1 but 2 slots. "

What is your opinion on all of this? I mean is it true and who the heck are they expecting to leave?

From Tennessee and the Alabama side, they both were reporting that Taulia was back in Tuscaloosa Saturday night at Saban's house hanging with recruits. Is so, it already sounds like Lia is trying his best not to send any mix signals.

His name is Cornelious Brown and I honestly think this has a lot to do with top 2020 DT Jayson Jones, who is scheduled to commit on July 4th. Jayson and Cornelious play on the same team in Calera, AL. He is 6'5 and slightly under 200 lbs. That is a large frame that will fill out in the next few years, so I'm will to bet he is being recruited as an athlete. Similar to C. Townsend from last year. JMO.

I don't agree - if you read the AL.com story on C Brown he definitely wants to play QB, and I just don't look at a 6'5 200# QB as a potential athlete - C Townsend is very different in that aspect. I DO think that it helps us with Jayson Jones, even if only a bit, and every bit helps because Jones is supposed to be a STUD. IF everything works out with Tyson and Taulia I expect Brown to get a really good offer and go where he can play QB.
