The "We Won Six" is the only thing they will ever have... in this era anyway. Years from now, they will still have shirts and bumper stickers dedicated to it. Their new ticket number 50 years from now will change from 1-800-AUB-1957 to 1-800-6-IN-A-ROW. They will hold reunions for those teams 25, 50, and 100 years from now. They will have to move the paper mache likenesses of Shug Jordan and Pat Sullivan out of their museum to make way for the new "We Won Six in a Row Over Alabama" exhibit (they will never move the fake rolled oak tree, it is a mainstay). The "Six in a Row" is their greatest accomplishment, ever. Yeah, they won a real national championship over 50 years ago, but they weren't even Auburn University then. And hell, they ended up being put on probation for that anyway. Besides, one victory over the mighty Crimson Tide is more important to them than the national championship... so that is why they hold, and will continue to hold, 6 in a row so dear to their hearts.
We are headed down a road where we are going to be dominating them year in and year out, in every phase of the game... recruiting, facilities, fan support, graduation rate, AND now, on the field. Unless our team falls victim to things like scurvy and typhoid fever on the eve of the game every season, we are about to start reeling off wins against them in 8 of about every 10 games... maybe more. Hell, if I was one of them, I'd probably clutch to the "6 in a row" thing as well. Maybe get a commemorative license plate and a "6 in a row" watch. Something to hand down to the grandchildren 40 years from now, so that when you told them that, "hey kids, way back at the beginning of this century, we beat Alabama SIX times in a row..." you'd also have some proof to go along with your unbelievable story. Better get them now though, those auburn apparel stores will be liquidating and going out of business sooner rather than later.
Sucks to be a barner I suppose.
