🏈 Tee Martin Tale Being Dug Up Again...

I think these reporters from Oregon have done a better job in seven paragraphs presenting the hypocrisy of the NCAA in their whitewash of the Tee Martin escaped roughly a decade ago than any Southern writers did in multiple pieces at that time.

Good to see that some reporters in Oregon see the shadiness of the details of his relationship with the 'non-boosters' at Tennessee than did the NCAA.

Nah, I am not bitter.

Long quote from the new report...
Oregon coach Mike Bellotti and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly reportedly will interview former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin about one of the Ducks' soon-to-be open assistant coaching positions, and this is a move that should raise some eyebrows.

For starters, Martin's coaching resume is decidedly thin. Then there is the troubling, little scandal involving Martin, an insurance executive and a sportswriter that nearly brought the NCAA down on Tennessee.

The R-G had the story about the job interview, which apparently will take place at the national football coaches convention this week. It might already have taken place.

The R-G story doesn't mention the scandal, reportedly involving payments of $4,500 to Martin from AARCO Insurance Agency president Dianne Sanford that allegedly were funneled through Mobile Register sportswriter Wayne Rowe while Martin was still at Tennessee.

Rowe admitted his part in the deal and lost his job. Tennessee avoided NCAA sanctions by claiming that neither Sanford nor Rowe were school boosters.

Martin's coaching resume consists of one season as passing game coordinator at Morehouse College in 2006, and one season as quarterbacks coach at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga., in 2007.

Martin, who had seven-year pro football career, does have some credentials. He has worked some elite camps -- including the Tee Martin Playmakers' Passing Camp -- and has a close relationship with the highly-recruited Tajh Boyd. Boyd reportedly will sign either with Oregon or Ohio State.

Great post. I wonder why Tennessee gets the pass while the NCAA seemed (in those days) to WANT to hurt Alabama?

Just curious. Were you a member of any message board communities when all of this stuff was going on?

It does dredge up memories. What sort of convoluted logic was used to decide (in the Tee Martin matter) that Diane Sanford was not a representative of Tennessee athletic interests, yet somehow decide (in the Kenny Smith affair) that Ray Kellar was a representative of Alabama?

Yeah it does bring back memories. After my mother passed away, her business was dropped into my lap. As I started going through everything, I noticed she was with AARCO Ins. When I tried to get a certificate of credible coverage, I ran into a brick wall. Diane was my mother's agent, so I called AARCO. Diane left to take another job. So I kept digging..... When I asked for a copy of the check from the bank (used to be Amsouth), the check was endorsed by none other than Diane and deposited into her personal bank account (which went to T, apparently). NOT ONLY did I not have any insurance, but apparently that money went to T Martin's sorry ass. I'm mad again. Have a good day.

its so funny to me that every fan base has their own feelings that "we get picked on and they don't" attitude. Yall say that about us , FSU says it about florida, I dont know who GA says it about.

Lets be honest guys......back then no one was being regulated like now, EVERYONE was making deals in the shade. but dont get me wrong, i enjoy arguing football, its good fun.

He is right. As myopic and jaded as I can sometimes be, when I am being totally honest with myself and having honest talks with fans of rival teams, it does seem like every fan base things it's "us against the world". Only, in Alabama's case it's actually true.

That's insurance fraud. If she was an agent of that company, you've got insurance (or the insurance company on the hook) whether she absconded with the funds or not. I don't know if the statute has run on it, but if it hasn't you've got a case. Talk to an attorney friend (which I'm not - an attorney, that is) and contact the Alabama Dept. of Insurance to make a complaint. Get your paperwork together and lay waste to their collective rear ends.

No. This is the first and only Bama forum I really use.

The phrase "black helicopter conspiracies" was forever defined in those days. You really missed an interesting section of message board history and many other little things...no worse for the wear, mind you.

FWIW, the general conversation bullet points was Fulmer made a deal with Johanningmeir to look the other way for what was happening at UT in exchange for his testimony, recording Culpepper, etc.
