Recruiting - What it means: Taulia Tagovailoa | BamaInsider.com
The commitment
Taulia Tagovailoa (goes by Lia), four-star quarterback from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Saturday prior to the start of the spring game. Most expected Tagovailoa to follow in his brother's footsteps to Tuscaloosa. It was only a matter of when not if for the four-star.
The player
Tagovailoa had a decent junior season at Thompson High School. He passed for 3,820 yards with 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
"What I like most is his attitude and how competitive is. He has a fiery attitude, and he commands the huddle, he holds his teammates to being accountable and he is going to do all he can to lead his team. His arm strength jumps out immediately and he has a nice, short, compact release. He spins the ball well, he can throw with touch and he can buy time in the pocket. I’ve seen him on the big stage, and he loves the moment. He is a gamer that plays with a lot of fire and is a natural leader."- Southeast recruiting analyst Chad Simmons
"Great get, big upside. Different than his brother in many ways but has the same character and clutch quality as well as many of the same mechanics. A leader. "- National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell
The numbers
Alabama has its two quarterback targets on board in the 2019 class with Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson. Alabama is not expected to take another quarterback. Both were aware of the plan for taking two quarterbacks in this class. Both welcome the competition.
Alabama has nine public commitments at this time. All ranked four-stars according to Rivals.com. The class will only continue to improve especially with two leaders at the quarterback position.
