I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but will find some time in the morning. Pickens brings this shit up on a Hook'em podcast before the Oklahoma State/Texas game. What an asshole.

Bohls: OSU’s Pickens disses Boren, Gundy; Formula 1 is banking...

1. T. Boone Pickens said he likes the current 10-team Big 12 configuration the way it is and would prefer adding Houston and SMU if the league grows, but that’s ā€œprobably unlikely.ā€ The Oklahoma State benefactor said on our ā€œOn Second Thoughtā€ podcast that Oklahoma president David Boren has been wishy-washy about expansion and that ā€œmaybe it’s time for David to retire.ā€ Some outlets reported Tuesday that the mercurial Boren is saying he’s decided against expansion, but Boren clarified his stance, saying ā€œOklahoma has not yet taken a position on expansion.ā€ Pickens, who has given $500 million to his alma mater, said, ā€œI’ve known David forever. He likes to talk. He gets a little bit confused sometimes.ā€ Pickens said he and Cowboys coach Mike Gundy aren’t talking. ā€œI don’t have any conversations with Gundy,ā€ he said. Is there a rift? ā€œI don’t know, but Mike doesn’t handle people relationships very well. And he gets mad about things. I’ve heard he’s written some notes about me that weren’t very complimentary.ā€

I suppose after a $500 million dollar contribution you have reserved the right to express yourself. But at his age, I doubt he outlives his convictions much longer.

I'd be curious to know how much of that has actually made it. I remember that they invested the money and lost a big portion of it, close to half due to investments losing money. Not sure what's happened since, but with the market up since then (5 or 6 years ago) I'm sure they've made that back.

Would be interesting to know if they actually saw what he "promised". Not sure the athletic department has seen the ROI on it... List of Big 12 Conference champions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not sure, but they were able to go high tech with stadium renovation and new athletic complex. I would say they have at least entered the arms race. Never thought Gundy would ever get them to the promised land but they tolerate annually coming up short with great tolerance. They need to do something about conference expansion soon enough and SMU and Houston would certainly fit the old Southwest profile. All Texas.
