🏈 Sugar Bowl Thread: OU vs Bama 8:30 EST ... Roll Tide Roll!!!

How in the hell did this OU team lose to Texas??

Well, if we have a bunch of juniors to leave early, I wish them well. It's time for Saban to hit the reset button. I am not advocating firing coordinators, not at all, but they could both use a good kick in the ass.

Yes, the secondary is weak. Thank goodness we were able to land Brown today (and hopefully Humphrey next month).

I heard this in the media over and over again.

Football analysis and predication is the same as wine tasting - it's a junk science. The sports media, all these so-called "experts" and analysts who predict football are mostly just spinning a bottle around in a circle of probable numbers. That one analyst tonight next to Holtz, Reese I think, predicted 50 -10 Bama. Football, especially College, is way too fluid to call accurately. And when you try you more often than not end up looking like an idiot like Urban Meyer did when he predicted The Irish would upset Bama last year in the NCG.

I don't think Saban has peaked. I don't think we need a complete reload or fire coaches or anything of the sorts. Our secondary is weak and will get some much needed help with the upcoming classes. The defense coaches need to watch tape on how to defend the up tempo offense because our defense has made some folks look like all Americans against the teams that run that offense.

But, there are a lot of teams that would love to be 11-2 and the defending national champs.

Roll Tide

This was one of the most pathetic outings I've seen awhile... made a redshirt freshman QB thats thrown 5 TD passes all year look like Joe Montana out there... just sad... Lots of soul searching needed in the off season and man if our DBs dont improve it's gonna be another rough year.

continues to amaze me that we're so terrible at DB when that's Saban's speciality

and I never, ever, EVER want to hear again how dominating our defense is when we fold up like a paper cup on 3rd and mile so predictably year after year

Year after year? WTF are you talking about? It doesn't matter how great the coach is, when the large majority of corners are freshmen.

Give some credit to Tanner Knight, he made some amazing throws. I though Eddie Jackson was in good position most of the time, just couldn't defend a great pass.

We can sit hear and bitch about the CB's all game, but you know, its hard for them to do anything there is absolutely no rush. Good god oh mighty, did you see how OU attacked our O-Line? They were only rushing 4 most of the time and yet AJ has to evade the pocket a lot. With us, Alabama has to send extra defenders AND STILL NO PRESSURE! I was excited about Chris Rumph at first, but as the d-line coach, I have been unimpressed. Absolutely crazy to think we have no one that can consistently get after the QB. Hubbard should have been that guy but he has been dismal this year. Pagan has consistency issues. Still wondering where Xavier Dickson and Denzell Devall are. There is absolutely no one up front, other than maybe A'Shawn, that can generate pass rush.

You can have a great secondary, but a great pass rush can do wonders for a inexperienced secondary.

While I agree Tanner Knight had a great game. I will points out some flaws in his game that we failed to take advantage of. We failed to use press man coverage when it would've served us much better than the deep man coverage we were running in most cases. We failed to adjust to Oaklahoma's scheme and let them throw over the middle with no punishment for the receivers. We didn't spy Tanner Knights eyes and have the safety roam to wherever he was looking (Which was a huge problem). Tanner Knight stared down each receiver he thew too last night and didn't even check down. If Smart and Saban didn't see it they need to fire whomever is in the booth, because he stared at the receiver he was throwing to 9/10 times. We needed our safeties to start making the receivers pay for their catches and it just wasn't happening

What hurts the most isn't that we lost, it's how we lost. We got taken to the woodshed for the majority of the game. With the points we lost by 31, I don't want any coaching changes but with the defensive exposure the last couple games to up tempo we need an answer to the riddle. We can't keep letting teams just go up tempo and wear our defense out. We need to be the best conditioned hardest working team on the field every play of every game. This off-season is critical to how things will shape up next year.

I think we'll see some more defensive changes in the off-season. Not change the scheme, but maybe have more 4 down lineman than usual this year and more press. Defense got absolutely torched last night. Worst I've seen it since '07. Bad angles, arm tackles, missed tackles in space, blown assignments, no pressure..>I could say a lot about the defense last night, it was terrible.

I think Cristobal needs to go. O-Line play has been FAR less than dominant and even Cyrus has regressed.

Idk about that. We replaced 3 lineman, one that was injured versus OU and had to start a JUCO lineman (who I must say played fairly well). The Kounj. brothers haven't really been what I expected this year, but both still IMO are inexperienced. Cyrus is in his what? 2nd full year starting? This is Arie's first year.

I don't know about letting Cristobal go after just one year. Especially with the recruits he's gotten in.

Not to mention, it's hard to follow the o-line success in recent years!!

so true. when people start making comparisons from one team to the next, it gets you nothing but heartache (and sometimes a headache.) the o-line we had last year was a freak of nature and phenomenal. they were arguably the best o-line anyone has ever seen in a loooooooong time. but to have the success we had this year (and yes, it was a success) with losing that many starters takes a lot of guts and a lot of guys stepping up and doing the job. it's not easy. well, for us it's easy. we don't have to go out there and do what they do day in and day out. we just have to sit back on our couches and in our chairs and watch. their the ones who put in the work every week.

i, for one, am anxious to see what next season brings. i don't think we fall off as much as some are probably thinking. there were a lot of people that thought the '09 season was a one-time thing due to what happened in 2010. then 2011 and 2012 came along and we were right back on top again. we were back to our winning ways and keeping the media and auburn fans pissed off. just how i like it.
