Considering this show is behind a paywall, a little background ...

Sonequa Martin-Green (character: Michael Burnham) is our main character here. In case you didn't know her by roles she also played Sasha for several season on TWD. While I don't watch that show any longer, those first few years were good TV viewing in my opinion: she did a heck of a job in her role.

IF you also didn't know Sonequa is a graduate of the theatre department at Alabama.

On her decision to become an actor, she said, "I didn't know I was going to be an actor until I was 16. I thought I was going to be a psychologist, which is interesting because it's very similar to acting. I was fascinated with human behavior and why people do what they do. I was in the middle of rehearsal in 10th grade when I had this epiphany. And so I got my theatre degree from the University of Alabama."

Anson Mount. He's resurrected the role of Captain Christopher Pike in this series. If you're not familiar with him, you need to make yourself familiar with AMC's western Hell on Wheels. Another good series.

Sarak is in this series as well as Spock (who happens to be Sonequa's/Michael's brother in the storyline.)

It's a CBS All-Access series which has just started airing S1 on Thursday nights.

For a free trial—which would mean some serious binging—and maybe another six bucks if you can't get through three seasons ... well worth the time.

I have watched the previous seasons of ST Discovery. I enjoyed them immensely and I watched ST Picard, I enjoyed it as well.

I did not know of Ms Greens’ Alabama connection. She is very attractive as well as a good actress

The newest iteration is ST Strange New Worlds with Anson Mount as Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock and Rebecca Romijn as #1.
If the series has gifted writers and solid stories it will be a huge hit as it is the prequel to the original series. Where this can stand alone with non connected stories, ST Picard had an enormous singular plot. It was like they took a movie and chopped into 10 pieces. The individual shows did not keep you glued to the TV, so to speak.

Still to date ST Enterprise is my favorite even if I didn’t watch it until 2020. I would like to see the time between Archer and Pike fleshed out. The final episode of ST Enterprise was total shit but you saw Capt. Archer at the signing of the Federation Charter.

I have never been a gamer but Star Trek Fleet Command is really good if you are a Trekkie. Here I am at 59 before I ever played an online game. It is really for your mobile devices but can be played on a good pc by installing BlueStacks. It is free to play but you progress slower than credit card Captains.

There is an app........Cyberflix that I used to watch for free. Episodes posted immediately after showing on all access

I have seen every episode of this. I binged the last season and I expect I will start the next one when it comes out but the number of episodes watched will be open.

Regardless of the ST series there was always an egalitarian appeal albeit with some socialist undertones, nothing that was ever really over the top. The “we have eliminated poverty” “ we have no need for money” were recurring elements.

Discovery drives a stake through the heart of free enterprise capitalism, at least to the casual watcher. There is little doubt that the Federation is a commie dictatorship but it is gleaming and riding in to save the galaxy from a group called The Emerald Chain, it is the evil capitalist entity headed by a ruthless Orion woman. She represents capitalism as it exists in our country and others. Cronyism. She excoriates the admiral of the Federation for turning his nose up at capitalism but points out that his far outposts that he can no longer reach are using it to survive.

She dies, the federation wins and the lead character is made Capt of the ship a third time after losing it twice before.

My prediction is that there will not be a fourth season but if there is it will die due to these issues.

The Brave New Worlds franchise has lots of promise. The original Capt of the Enterprise covering the decade before Kirk.....yea, that’s Star Trek roots.

No more Kirk. The newest series will be about the first captain of the Enterprise. Capt Pike was the Capt of the Enterprise in the pilot episode of the series.

First that I have heard of anything Kirk related. I don’t care for the single character approach like the Picard spinoff. A recasting of the entire crew of the original series with new missions would be a hit and maybe Brave New Worlds will lead to it but only if BNW has faltering ratings.

Personally I would like to see them continue from the end of the ST Enterprise series. There are a lot of good storylines that could start from the signing of the Federation charter where ST Enterprise ended.

I was just showing it to you. Me, I'm not a big fan of every of the movie or TV shows. That includes Star War. Now this doesn't mean I hadn't watched either of them.

It never occurred to me to find a book about ST. I’ve always been an avid reader.
