I was told this as a true story:

When Stabler hooked up with the Saints at the end of his career as a player, he dropped into a bar and ordered a drink. The bartender poured Kenny's drink, took it over to him and said "That will be three dollars."

Stabler's response was "I'm Kenny Stabler."

"Glad to meet you. That is three dollars for the drink."

"You don't understand. I'm Kenny Stabler. I don't pay for my drinks."

"Well, OK " said the bartender as he poured the drink into the sink.

Kenny's allegiance to alcohol in those days was the root of a lot of personal problems, and I'm sure had a lot to do with his terrible attitude towards the press.
