AUBURN | An important member of the Tigers' softball staff has resigned.

Corey Myers, head coach Clint Myers' son and Auburn's associate head coach, no longer will be coaching on the Plains in order to spend more time with his family.

"It became clear to me that my relationship with my family needs to be my top priority right now and therefore felt that I must step away," Corey Myers said in a statement."I thank the Auburn family for everything they have done for my family and myself. We absolutely love living on the plains and will forever feel like Auburn is our home.”

Corey Myers was hired prior to the 2014 season and helped turn the Tigers' pitching staff, once the program's limiting factor, into perhaps its biggest strength. Auburn currently ranks ninth among all Division I teams in earned run average. Ace Kaylee Carlson is 16-1 this season.

Auburn is set to begin a three-game series at Georgia this weekend.

Rumors are, young Corey was having flashbacks to his college days and the need to chase splittail.
Barner message boards have mentioned Terry Bowden 2.0. Others claim he has "cancer" and still others say the wife has "cancer".

With that said, I don't think Clint Myers will be the coach next season. It'll be his choice. He's not in trouble. He's not sick. He's doing a fantastic job with this team, in fact. I just don't think Casey Myers wants to be a head softball coach. This was supposed to be a transition period between Clint and Corey, not Clint and Casey. The Myers boys are totally different people. Corey is the kind of guy who runs a program. Casey is a behind-the-scenes guy, a very private guy, a baseball nerd. He doesn't strike me as someone who would want to be the face of a program.

Clint is 65 this year, so I don't look at this as "early retirement." I'd look at it as "retirement."
