šŸˆ Spring Practice 2026: A-Day Reports and Updates

You never know until he takes the snaps when it matters, but the dude checks all the boxes.
I think 12 has a little better processor than 10. He looks then a 2nd look then he pulls it down and tries to make a play. He has much better speed and agility than 10. I believe 12 has a more powerful arm as well. He can throw that 20 yard out with power. That is a huge advantage for Bama.

I went to A-Day for two reasons.

1-wanted to see the QB's throw the ball around. Both have good arm strength, and both make pretty good decisions (for a spring game). I do think 12 has 10 beat on speed and agility. 12 is going to be the guy at some point in this season. If 10 gets the start early, he will be replaced due to bad decisions.

2-wanted to see what we have at RB. 17 has the ability to be a starter. He can run with quickness and agility. Recruiting is not science, but this kid does look like his film. If the other freshmen is near this cat, then we will have 3 RB's with 17 and 4 being the others. 0 and 6 are roster fillers and 6 was a simple recruiting mistake.

watched the punter and he hit a couple 55 yards from toe to receiver and several 50. He will be a little better than the last guy, but he is no Ray Guy.

Hard to see much from the OL/DL.

JMO but Kalen shot himself in the foot in year one with the hire of the OL coach thus we lost two years of where we actually should be. Not to say that the OL that didn't come with him would great, but it would be difficult to be worse that the guy he hired.

Year 3. Hard to believe we're already at this point. Seems like only yesterday Nick threw his keys at Byrne and quit. The Byrne gave Nick the key to the broom closet at Bryant/Denny and 500k to stick around.

8-4 or 9-3

Either will get him year 4 regardless of the noise.

Thanks for the assessment. I hope you're off a little on some, but I am more encouraged at QB and RB.

From my perspective year three is not, and should not be, a barometer. History proves with Bama it can be a false positive.
I think that measurement went out the window with NIL. Used to be when the coach had his players and his system in place but transfers and budgets dictate the season now, never know who he'll have from year to year.

I'm looking at history.

2005; third year for Shula. People still think that was a good football team.
1999; third year for DuBose. Great season; then came UCLA.
1992: third year for Stallings. One outlier here, but still, year three.
1989: third year for Curry (1st in the SEC, 10-2, L in the Sugar...right at 45% of his SEC wins came that season. He quit.)
1985: third year for Perkins (5-6 in '84, 9-2-1 in '85.) A year later and he's headed to Tampa Bay.

Now, 1960 was Bryant's third year. His record improved that season as well though his big year came in '61.

I get that aspect. It's definitely not a given that year 3 is the indication of the future, just a measuring stick that was widely accepted in the past. Just saying I think it's even less accurate in current state. Kinda like pre and post roids in baseball, I think post NIL is different.

Post-portal definitely. I alluded to that earlier in the thread when mentioned Lloyd starting at LT. IF he'd been here last year, fans and media alike would be flaunting a five star, blue-chipper left tackle who took over the position. But since he wasn't in Tuscaloosa, and in spite of starting a few games, he's a "newbie." True, but false at the same time. James is another.
