šŸˆ Sports Illustrated's Preseason Top 25

The Barn reminds me of a coach I coached with several years ago. I coached WRs and we did all of these 7 on 7s all summer but when the season came, we worked the hell out of stalk and cut off blocks. Then when we had to throw to get in position to win, we couldn't catch a damn cold or we were too damn exhausted from chasing DBs all over the place. You have to work the passing game and develop talent. I don't think they do a good job to be honest.

While I do not agree at all with the ranking, and think that Auburn will have at least 4 losses this year, I do think the defense will be improved... and not because of Muschamp... but because they get some injuries back. Lawson will be a factor on the line, along with Cowart. Hell, they can't be any worse, right? I think the LBs and Secondary will still be awful and unable to tackle, but the DL should be improved.

As for offense, JJ is likely better that what they have had since Cam, and the RBs should not see a drop off (at least not much). WR takes a hit losing Coates, because if nothing else, he could spread the field for other WRs.

Do I think they are in play for the SEC title and the playoffs? Not at all. I think they will lose to Louisville, LSU, UGA, and Bama.... and may even drop their road game to Arkansas. If they come out of this season with less than 4 losses, I would call that a success in their books... but it does not merit a #2 ranking.

Muschamp is at least a year and half away from turning that D around... and he won't be there that long.

This isnt dice where probability is at play. You create your own luck.

Well creating that kind of magic is unlikely. Can it be done? Of course, but I'd bet my house on it not happening. I mean, anything can happen, much like aliens coming to your house and taking you. I look at us having all the pieces for the last two years and we slipped up a couple of times. Gonna be tough to come out of nowhere anymore with the playoff system requiring you to beat two quality teams instead of getting up for one big game.

Who is coming out of nowhere?

Well technically Auburn would be after a five loss season and the attrition on offense and uncertainty on the defensive side of the ball.. They may be #2 on this list, but going from five losses to title contender is unlikely. Anyone can forecast or create a list. Heck, give me Georgia Southern winning 11 games this year. We've seen MANY times where pre-season rankings mean nothing anyways.

I feel dirty reading all this fawbarn discussion. I will feel absolutely filthy joining in.

I think johnson is a definite upgrade to the passing aspect of their offense. I think the nature of malathion's offense is that most any SEC level RB is going to get yards and thomas and robinson are both SEC talent. Throw in williams at WR and their offense should be as dynamic as last year. I think their issues will continue on the defensive side. I think muschamp's reputation as a defensive genius is more theoretical/hyperbole than it is reality. lawson being back is huge for them but I think their LB's and DB's will still struggle and I think the D overall will suffer because of the offense they run.

Top to bottom they probably have fewer positional question marks than Bama (tactics if you will) but big picture I think they struggle on the defensive side as a whole (strategy if you will)

All my .02 and maybe not worth .02 in this economy
