I'm sure we have talk about this, but with my old mind(OFC)! I can't remember if we have talk about these two open dates? Does anyone know why we getting two of them next year? NEW MEXICO STATE is an Independent school and when 3-9. WESTERN CAROLINA is in the same confer. as The Citadel is in. WC went 3-8.

Due to the way the dates fall, there is an extra week next year available for scheduling.

17.10.3 First Contest. [FBS/FCS] An institution shall not play its first contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition in football prior to the Thursday preceding Labor Day (see Figure 17-2). (Revised: 1/11/89, 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96, 1/14/97, 5/12/05)

17.10.4 End of Playing Season. [FBS/FCS] A member institution's last contest (game or scrimmage) with outside competition in football shall not be played after the second Saturday or the following Sunday in December, except for the following

So the rules allow the season to be from the Thursday prior to Labor Day until the second Saturday in December. Since the SEC has their championship the first Saturday in December that means the schedule possibility runs from the Thursday before Labor Day until the last saturday in November. This year that covers 14 possible Saturdays for 12 games. .

Saturday Down South discusses 2 byes
"Tuesday’s release of the 2019 SEC schedule will certainly create tons of speculation among fans, but one of the most interesting things about the slate is a major change to how it’s constructed.

The conference will move to a 14-week season with each team having two open dates, which is likely a welcome change for most coaches and players. In the competitive and physically demanding SEC, having an extra week to rest players and prepare for big games is invaluable.

But beyond that, the extra open date creates a much easier rescheduling opportunity for teams that must postpone or cancel games due to weather. With recent years seeing a rash of rescheduling due to hurricanes and other storms, this was likely a major factor in the schedule change.

Another point of interest is seeing which teams face the most SEC opponents coming off a bye. While this almost certainly doesn’t reflect any bias from the league office and is merely a product of trying to compile a workable schedule for 14 teams, it’s another method of determining a schedule’s difficulty.

Georgia leads the way with five league opponents fresh off a bye — every other East team besides Kentucky and Vanderbilt, plus Auburn. After that, Alabama, LSU and Tennessee are tied at three apiece.

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are the only teams that won’t face an SEC opponent following a bye week."
This is not new, there was a 2 bye schedule used not too long ago. my oldtimers mind doesnt recall just now, but hasnt been too long (within the Saban Era)

We get past Duke and it gets interesting again. I look forward to USC and the home and home we have coming up. Unfortunately, tickets will be coming back on both sides. We played this game on Duke's home field last time, if we had it on ours it makes a lot more sense.

I am behind. I didn't realize it was time to bitch about 2019 schedule yet. Time is flying. "Turf looks bad at BDS" and "They bent my season tickets" will be upon us before we know it

15 week schedule is like Easter. Never know when it will occur. Just like Easter there is a method to the madness. Don't even bother to figure it out. Just take it whenever it shows up on the calendar.
