UofSC is 3-3 and needs three more wins for bowl eligibility. Considering three of the Gamecocks’ remaining five games are on the road, and two are against Top-10 teams, the Dec. 1 game may be crucial for USC’s bowl chances.

The University of North Alabama had a team cancel with them earlier in the year. If the money is right, I am sure they would be happy to go to Columbia for a beating, I mean game.

It's all about money. Money from the ticket sales and money from a better bowl (if/when they win). It will be interesting to see what attendance is at this game. I hope they donate a ton of tickets to soldiers/sailors/airmen and women.

Its all about making it to a bowl game. They've pretty much said as much. There's not a lot of faith in Columbia they'll win against Florida and Clemson, a cloud of doubt on whether they can beat Ole Miss, and they're seeing a season possibly end with five wins unless they added the make-up game. A win against Akron will get them to that six win mark.

BTW, every conference game left on UofSC's schedule is on the road.

Well, in reality........it was Marshall that was cancelled.....who is 5-2 for akron thats 4-4.... dont know who each played....sounds ok though...about same i guess

Yes and no.

Both schools tried to find a way to play the game--Marshall couldn't work it within their schedule due to how they're set in their conference race. I'd have to look at the standings to be sure, but there's a chance Marshall is in their conference championship that week. So, they couldn't commit to the weekend leaving UofSC looking elsewhere.

The decision to add this game was made because of the loss of that game and the way this season is shaping up. They need it for a bowl appearance.

As a side note, as a program the game today is one they need to win. A loss defines this season for them barring a huge upset.
