Calls with multiple sources on Saturday morning indicated to Yahoo Sports that a deal is being finalized for UConn to return to the Big East in basketball and other sports.
Hope they go Independent with their football program. Increases the likelihood Bama can schedule a FBS the week before the barn. Unless the AAC replaces them very quickly, it adds them and the oddball out to the teams available that week.
The inevitable Big XII implosion is going to be fun to watch. Realizing it's been in the works since Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas A&M pursued other daddy's.
UConn has been a power and a strong presence in both men and women college basketball for a long time. Getting back to those roots makes sense. The Big East still says basketball and the AAC, well, not really sure.
Generally speaking, I'm not in favor of an Athletic Department being allowed to be in multiple conferences. If your conference doesn't have a sport, then it makes sense.
UCONN lays claim to ALL of the national titles the AAC has in their trophy case if I'm not mistaken. Not so insignificant, I'd say. (Now, all were basketball, but that's UCONN's calling card.)
