I heard this yesterday when it was going on. And, to be honest, there isn't a thing here I disagree with.

From a facility standpoint they are far, far behind a lot of other schools. Sure, their home field has the name "Liberty Bowl." The last time I was there was back in the mid to late 80's and wasn't impressed at all. Frankly, I'm not sure it is on par with the "Ol Grey Lady."

Facilities at their campus? They've got basketball support, but very little on the football side.

I see it as an institutional issue. By their revenue and expense reports they claim their basketball program is breaking even, to the dollar. I don't buy it.

It's just my supposition...IF they have the right figure head in place as HC and that fan base gets off its ass as a prerequisite...they have the talent surrounding the city to become something akin to what Cincy has done the last few years.

All of the "city" schools - Cincinnati, Louisville, Houston, Miami, etc.(and don't ask me where etc is) - have had a decent amount of success in football at one time or another, except Memphis. Besides the occasional upset of Ole Miss, they have never even hinted at having a good program.

I don't disagree. But, I do say with the right coach and some financial stability they could.

There's talent to pull from in Memphis, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Prob so, didnt he also schedule the road game with South West La?:headscratch::shock:

i'm thinking you are talking about Louisiana Lafayette.

If I remember right, that was in 1990...and I'm 99% sure of that date. Which, based on that, sort of makes me think there is a good chance it could have been Steve Sloan behind that one. It might have been at the urging of Bill Curry as well. Lord knows, the Southern Miss game in '89 messed with his head a lot even though we ended up winning the game.

The thing that makes me unsure of who scheduled that game was the number of times we played them in the 80's. And, the first game was under Perkins so you might be right.

yes they are now La Lafayette (but were then SWLA)

I think it was a 3 for 1 deal and Im almost positive it was in 1990 that the game was played there..... Prob implicates Perkins:swear:

I had forgotten about the name change—it's not reflected as such in my score database.

That certainly sounds right. I know I have the details on how that broke down because I remember reading about it. But, I can't remember where (as in which book.) I'm almost positive it's "Bama After Bear" by Don Staffo.
