🏈 Sources: Memphis fires coach West

Love to see Fulmer get that job.

Would make for some interesting times would it not.

Fulmer is still a little upset over his dismissal by UT and would do everything he could to upset their little apple cart. Would make that fence or wall or whatever it was Tennessee has in mind for Memphis recruits a real battle ground. And you can bet any misstep by Kiffinkin and company there would be met with some public (at least on background) words broadcast by some media members still friendly toward Fulmer.

Get out of my head.

Wonder if Malzahn would/could convince Michael Dyer to follow him there?

Will be the featured back in the infamous Malzahn offense in a lesser league - imagine the numbers Dyer could put up.

A Malzahn type offense would probably work well for a few years at Memphis. He'd be able to pull recruits from that region and still hit Arkansas heavily.

I've heard Memphis is wanting to get into the Big East. IF they are able to do so, that Memphis job gets better than what it is now.

I expressed this sentiment before the 2008 season regarding the expected Auburn spread offense run by Franklin that season, but I actually like this type of offense. And I thought the marriage of Franklin's more QB-centric attack and Tubberville's preference for a down-hill running attack would be a nice scheme.

While it appears Tubberville having given up any pretense to compete at Auburn and the other dysfunction on that staff doomed the 2008 version, the Malzahn system is much more in line with what I expected - and more competitive.

Yes, yes, yes. I know they mostly fall apart when they face a real live defense - but that has more to do with quality of players than quality of schemes.

And I think most everyone can see Saban is adapting more and more of that style as his time in Tuscaloosa grows. Not so much the trickery aspects of a wholesale Malzahn spread, but more of the principles of spreading the field more and attacking with the running game relying on angle-blocks instead of brute force. I like the direction our offense is taking.

Indeed, we have let the other members of this conference fight among themselves, while we take the top of the recruiting crop each year. The Fighting Kiffins can have Memphis and every Albert Means there within.

We would allow them to send the next Anfernee Hardaway to play a little roundball in T-Town however.

Personally, if I was Gus and Louisville called I'd be on a plane within the quarter of an hour. I see his system working well in that type of environment as well.

Just a guess on my part here...

I'm thinking Mphs. is wanting to get a step up on the coaching turmoil/firings we are going to see in the next two months.

Honestly, to start, we are looking at Michigan, Notre Dame and Illinois firing their guys. We can likely add Louisville looking as well. Virginia comes to mind...

Agree with you on Malzahn and Louisville. Then again I thought Kragthorpe would make a smooth transition in behind Petrino too - so what the Hell do I know. :no-no:, don't go there.

Brian Kelley will almost certainly end up at Notre Dame - unless they completely unload the bank and toss around $7.5MM/year for Meyer and/or Saban.

Michigan will probably look into their family tree or an NFL guy. Miles will have to tell them no again. If he does, which I bet he does not, Bob Stoops, who is suffering from the 'been there ten year' ailment and might need a change of scenery.

Virginia will probably look to Jim Grobe at Wake or the guy at Richmond who was a respected Wahoo assistant. David Cutcliff might be an option there too.

Illinois. Who knows - or really cares. They will not be in the market for anyone with any name or resume.

Now. If Miles does go home, how long before we hear the 'Saban will crawl back to LSU' stories? And where in the world will LSU look if Saban does say no? Tubberville will not go over well with the average Joeux down there at ALL - even though it would be a good place for him to recharge his batteries and stick it to Auburn with a boat-load of talent.

Wild card in all this is Jon Gruden. He has about $10MM coming from the Bucs still, and would he risk that for the pressure of a college job (where he has been been removed from that game in favor of the NFL guy for too many years). LSU and Michigan both would do well by hiring him - and us too if Saban does go to LSU.

Also, do not be surprised to see a change at South Carolina either this year or next. Spurrier has lost the fire.
