Seriously, I see many advantages to having discussions about varying philosophies. You can talk and consider yet still discount any and all ideas. But when you explore others' ideas, you can get an idea about what the "other side" is thinking. It could help your defense as much as your offense.

Lance (as Al Davis used to call him), has a very good football mind. He just happens to not be a very good head coach and he's a bit of a pr!ck, too. Either way, I think his input on the offense would be very valuable. Just because you don't like the guy, don't underestimate his football capacity.
Lots of coaching staffs share ideas. My buddy who is at Carson Newman says he liked to see how other staffs organize practice.
If saban is calling in someone to look at the offense does this mean we will have a new OC come next season?
