šŸˆ Sorry Aggies, but Arkansas is the original home of the 12th man.

"For this game, throw out the record books."

Here's a game where that old line actually works—thanks to one of the most meaningless decisions made by the NCAA; vacating games.

On the field? The Tide holds a 17-7 record against the Hogs. But, those seven wins...my god, how many of them still sit in your craw when you think back?

Our conversations over the last few months bring back memories of games in the past against Arkansas—this week, most notably among those is the loss 2006. How many of you remember, vividly, Leigh Tiffin missing three field goals in the one point overtime loss? Geez, not to mention the extra point!!!

It's the tip of the iceberg with this series.

I certainly don't fall in with those to blame officials for wins or losses but I'm certainly part of the group that believes far too often those in the striped shirts impact and decide a game (or two.) Enter into evidence 2000 and 2003. Blatant missed calls? No. Calls that definitely can be questioned? Assuredly so.

A player intercepts the ball in the endzone leads to an unsportsmanlike conduct flag? I remember thinking back in 2003 after that flag, "is this what football is becoming—they're taking legitimate celebrations out of the game?" Err, yep.

I shot our local rival Rev a text about an hour ago just to remind him of what he, and all the honest 'Backs fans know—the ball hit the damn turf in 1995.

But oh...1997—The day when the 12th man was officially introduced to the SECW. Since that game I've met and spent a good bit of time with Penn Wagers. He's a good fella. But my gawd...on that day? I wondered if the boy could count. I remember that game like it was yesterday...sitting in a sports bar in Mt. Pleasant, SC with a few other alums and to a person we saw it—why didn't he?

Among all of these frustrations, in the end, this is a series I've always enjoyed—sans the Petrino years. (Sort of ironic that it took a second trip to Louisville for Petrino to actually have a defense that people are talking about, positively. There's a good thing here. I smile thinking about UGA fans crucifying Todd Grantham as if HE was the problem with their defense.)

I really enjoyed the emphasis that Nutt put on the Arkansas vs Bama game each year. I like what good ol' Bret is building over there now.

One thing I'm really looking forward to this weekend—by all appearances old man football can be seen for one of the few times this season.
