Let me ask you an honest question (or 2 or 3 or 4)..

1.)Do you boys think we have a legitimate shot at beating LSU and winning the west?

2.)Do you boys think we have a shot at winning the National Championship?

3.) What ranking do you HONESTLY think we sit at? Rank your top 5 teams HONESTLY..

Absolutely. UGA was the toughest team on our schedule. That isn't going to change. LSU is not the same LSU of '07, or of previous years. Specifically, they have QB issues (though their QB play will likely be improved before we meet up with them), and their defense is not as salty as it as been in years past either. Some might say it is a cycle, some might say it is because Pelini is gone, or some might say it is because Saban's kids are pretty much gone... but the fact is, they are certainly beatable.

2.)Do you boys think we have a shot at winning the National Championship?
We are 6-0 and ranked #2 right now, and will not be ranked any lower than #5 heading into week 8. If BAMA can keep winning, the ranking will take care of itself. Can BAMA win the rest of the games on the schedule? Yes. Will it be easy? No. Will it be probable? Not in my opinion. UA could not be in better position right now though. If the Tide can finish the regular season without a loss, it puts UA a situation where a win over the East opponent in the SECCG sends them to the BCS Championship game. Again, I'm not predicting it, but the shot is there. The Tide controls their own destiny.

The wild card, as always, is injuries. The Tide is only 2 or 3 injuries away from being in a world of hurt. The margin of error in this area is much smaller than it is for most other teams. The Tide is still very thin at some key positions.

3.) What ranking do you HONESTLY think we sit at? Rank your top 5 teams HONESTLY..

1. Oklahoma
2. Missouri
3. Texas
4. Alabama
5. LSU

That top 5 might change by tomorrow, but that is how I see it right now. I think Texas is probably overrated, but if that is the case, it will work itself out next week. I think BAMA, LSU, and Penn State are all pretty close together. Missouri's offense is really, really impressive to me, but I'm just not quite sold on their defense. I think they will survive and play in the Big 12 Title game though, against OU. As for OU, IMO, they are the clear cut #1 team in the country.

Honestly, based on difficulty of schedule, to this point, 'Bama should be #1. Am I complaining, hell no. They have rose from being unranked to being in the top five. That is very rare and has only happened as quickly as 'Bama has done it a handful of times.

But, on the other hand, let's review what the other teams in the top 5 have "earned".

#1 Oklahoma has played Cincinnati, Chattanooga, a winless Washington sitting at 0-5, #24 TCU, and Baylor. Can they and have they laid 50 on a few of these teams? Yes. Do that impress most people? No.

#3 LSU has played Appalachian State, Troy, North Texas, a #10 at the time Auburn who is falling faster than a lead weight, and a 1-4 MS. State who came within 10 points of beating them. Impressive? Not really.

#4 Missouri has played Southeast Missouri State, a #20, at the time, Illinois, Nevada, Buffalo, and a struggling Nebraska. Overwhelmingly powerful team, no way.

#5 Texas has played Florida Atlantic, Rice, UTEP, Arkansas, and Colorado. All unranked, all not very good. Is this a staggeringly powerful Texas team? Who knows, they haven't proven it yet.

Then we have Alabama sitting at #2 and some don't think we should be there. I say, who should? We have proven more than any of the teams listed above.

Bama has played a #9 Clemson, #3 Georgia and rolled both of them up and smoked them. We have just beaten an unbeaten Kentucky team that stood at the top of many statistical defensive categories in the SEC. We also beat a scrappy Tulane and put the proper amount of beatdown on Western Kentucky and Arkansas.

Looks to me like 'Bama certainly has a claim to being the very best team in the country. If not, who does?

As far as beating LSU, who knows? Maybe so, maybe not. They are stout up front on both sides of the ball just like 'Bama is. I think 'Bama has them in the QB department and the coaching department. It will be a punishing and bone crushing game and maybe 'Bama can come out on top.

And for winning the NC, sure, we have a chance. What team in the top 15 doesn't? You just never know what will happen from week to week.

All I know is that 'Bama is undefeated and their next opponent is a scrappy team led by a wily and motivational coach named Nutt who wins lot's of games.

My top five would look like this:

#1 Alabama

LSU, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas in no particular order.

I really can't determine which of these teams are legitimate and which aren't. At least LSU has beat a #10, at the time, Auburn, but we see how Auburn is doing now.

All the teams in the top five, except 'Bama, have basically dropped 50 and 60 points on the unprotected heads of teams that UAB would dominate. Does that help me determine how solid of a team they are? Nope.

1. Yes we have a legitimate shot at winning the west. It is either gonna be us or LSU I think Auburn is out of it.

2. We have a shot, but we have to win out, and thats going to be tough. Ole Miss, UT, LSU, Miss State, and Auburn are whats in the way. Tall order, if we win 3 more games we have surpassed my expectations. I truly didn't expect us to be 6-0 right now. So its possible

3. Here is my top 5
1. Oklahoma
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. Missouri
5. LSU

If we play our game, we can beat anyone in the country. As stated earlier, we also have to remain injury and scandal free. By scandal, I mean we can't have a repeat of the textbook thing, or some mo-ron getting a dui. That said, I think we will win 10 or more games this year and end up ranked in the top 5.
My top 5:
1-OU
2-Mizzou
3-Bama
4-Texas
5-LSU

Yet to see any defense from them yet...and, have they really faced a defense. Put them at #5 and move the rest up...might even give Tx an edge over Bama.

Guys, how many times have we seen these high flying (Missouri) type offenses spreading it out and looking like the best team ever, only to flame out when a defense is in front of them?

How many times has Alabama put a stop to the magnificent spread that is all the rage? Okay, I will start:

Texas Tech = 10 points. They averaged what, 50 or 60 points a game until DeMeco and crew got ahold of them.

I do not see how everyone can say, with certainty, that Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma are better than us.

I want someone to fully blow apart my simple little analysis and teach me something. I won't be embarrassed to be set on the right path. Let me have it.

Where is the competition for these other teams, who have they played? Does anyone really think an Oklahoma or a Missouri is going to put 60 on a 'Bama type team?

Fluff, fluff, fluff and more fluff is all I see out of Missouri. When they play a team as good as even Kentucky, let's talk some more. Until then, they are abusing the weak and being promoted for it.

First, I do not think we have to beat LSU to win the West. I think LSU could finish 10-2 and we could finish 11-1 and win the west with our one loss being to LSU. Regardless, I think we can beat LSU and if we played them next week, I would expect us to win by 10-14 points. They have a young QB who can be rattled by pressure and forced into making mistakes.

Yes and unlike others, I don't even believe we have to win-out to do it. With the way the teams in the big 12 will all end up playing each other, a 12-1 Alabama could be right there at the end of the season. Regardless, I've already said I think we will beat LSU by 10-14 and we should be a favorite in all our others games, so that gives us a real shot. All we would have to do past the regular season is beat UGA, Fla, or Vandy in the Championship game, then beat the Big 12 champion and we have it.

1. Oklahoma - A really good, well rounded team. The only thing that could trip them up is a really tough schedule. Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, and the Big 12 Championship game, they could easily have an off game and lose.
2. Missouri - I rank them above Alabama because of experience. They were in the hunt last year and played in some big games. Plus, overall, they have a much older team.
3. Alabama - Playing like the best team in the best conference. That's good for at least third.
4. USC - Let's be honest, they still have more talent than anyone else, though the defense looks a little suspect this year. They just are not as fundamentally sound as some other teams. Carrol may not be the defensive genius some think he is.
5. BYU - Go ahead and laugh, but a QB who can complete 70% of his passes is tough for anyone to beat. Until he has an off game, I'm gonna believe in BYU. Plus they have a defense that is pretty good at stopping the run which means an opponent's passer will have to be on his game to beat them.

Ya know, nothing would make me happier than for us to run the table, Texas to run the table, and for us to put the deserving beat-down on the 'horns in the NC game. It's definately been a long time coming!

Of course. Win that game and you are probably in Atl.

2.)Do you boys think we have a shot at winning the National Championship?
Sure. I would say some other teams have better shots but they can lose and Bama is right in the picture. The team can run it and play defense.

3.) What ranking do you HONESTLY think we sit at? Rank your top 5 teams HONESTLY..
I'd say OU is ahead right now and then there are a group of teams including Bama, LSU, Texas, Missouri, and Penn St. that are pretty close to one another.

MY ANSWERS:

1. Yes of course we have a shot to beat LSU. LSU escaped with a lucky victory over us last year, when we were a far worse team than we are now. Plus take into account that we just beat Georgia and the Bulldogs look a LOT more impressive than anything LSU has done so far this year.

2. Of course we will have a shot at the national title IF we remain undefeated all the way through the season, because there is not even ONE team out there that even remotely looks like they are unbeatable.

3. I think we are the 3rd best team in the country right now, behind Oklahoma and Missouri. BUT, Oklahoma has Texas coming up this week and the week after that, Missouri will play Texas, so all this could change in the next two weeks.
