St. Nick has our boys focused and playing relentlessly....
Let me ask you an honest question (or 2 or 3 or 4)..
1.)Do you boys think we have a legitimate shot at beating LSU and winning the west?
2.)Do you boys think we have a shot at winning the National Championship?
3.) What ranking do you HONESTLY think we sit at? Rank your top 5 teams HONESTLY..
Honestly, based on difficulty of schedule, to this point, 'Bama should be #1. Am I complaining, hell no. They have rose from being unranked to being in the top five. That is very rare and has only happened as quickly as 'Bama has done it a handful of times.
But, on the other hand, let's review what the other teams in the top 5 have "earned".
#1 Oklahoma has played Cincinnati, Chattanooga, a winless Washington sitting at 0-5, #24 TCU, and Baylor. Can they and have they laid 50 on a few of these teams? Yes. Do that impress most people? No.
#3 LSU has played Appalachian State, Troy, North Texas, a #10 at the time Auburn who is falling faster than a lead weight, and a 1-4 MS. State who came within 10 points of beating them. Impressive? Not really.
#4 Missouri has played Southeast Missouri State, a #20, at the time, Illinois, Nevada, Buffalo, and a struggling Nebraska. Overwhelmingly powerful team, no way.
#5 Texas has played Florida Atlantic, Rice, UTEP, Arkansas, and Colorado. All unranked, all not very good. Is this a staggeringly powerful Texas team? Who knows, they haven't proven it yet.
Then we have Alabama sitting at #2 and some don't think we should be there. I say, who should? We have proven more than any of the teams listed above.
Bama has played a #9 Clemson, #3 Georgia and rolled both of them up and smoked them. We have just beaten an unbeaten Kentucky team that stood at the top of many statistical defensive categories in the SEC. We also beat a scrappy Tulane and put the proper amount of beatdown on Western Kentucky and Arkansas.
Looks to me like 'Bama certainly has a claim to being the very best team in the country. If not, who does?
As far as beating LSU, who knows? Maybe so, maybe not. They are stout up front on both sides of the ball just like 'Bama is. I think 'Bama has them in the QB department and the coaching department. It will be a punishing and bone crushing game and maybe 'Bama can come out on top.
And for winning the NC, sure, we have a chance. What team in the top 15 doesn't? You just never know what will happen from week to week.
All I know is that 'Bama is undefeated and their next opponent is a scrappy team led by a wily and motivational coach named Nutt who wins lot's of games.
My top five would look like this:
#1 Alabama
LSU, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas in no particular order.
I really can't determine which of these teams are legitimate and which aren't. At least LSU has beat a #10, at the time, Auburn, but we see how Auburn is doing now.
All the teams in the top five, except 'Bama, have basically dropped 50 and 60 points on the unprotected heads of teams that UAB would dominate. Does that help me determine how solid of a team they are? Nope.
