⚾ 🥎 🥎 🧹🧹🧹 Alabama Softball Completes Weekend Sweep with 6-1 Win over Ole Miss

Every starter in the Crimson Tide lineup earned a hit in the five-inning shutout

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball needed just five innings to win its series opener against Ole Miss Thursday night, winning 8-0 in the run-rule shutout.

Alabama (40-7, 16-6 SEC) threatened immediately in the bottom of the first, loading the bases against Ole Miss (34-17, 12-10 SEC) when a single to right field from Savannah Woodard scored two to give the Crimson Tide the early lead. Still up 2-0 in the third, Alabama batted around the order with five RBIs on six hits to take a seven-run lead. Still at 7-0 with two in scoring position and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Maddie Morgan was intentionally walked to load the bases for Elissa Brown who ended the game with an RBI single to center field.

All nine Crimson Tide starters earned a hit in the win, including multi-hit performances from Woodard, Alexis Mack, Bailey Hemphill and Kaylee Tow. Woodard drove in three of Alabama's eight RBIs, giving her seven in her last three games. Montana Fouts (18-3) held the Rebels hitless through 3.1 innings, only allowing two hits in the five-inning shutout with eight strikeouts.

FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY

"This was one of our most complete wins of the year. Everybody in the lineup got a hit and we only struck out once while earning three walks. We didn't commit an error. Montana threw a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. I am so proud of my group and the way they have preserved through this entire year. It was a great win and a great way to start out the series."

Sux that Arkansas and Florida are atop the SEC standings because they don't play each other. Bama had to play both. Back to back. Three of Bama's six losses are to them.
I was about to make the same comment.

OU, who most consider to be a lock for the #1 seed, has a strength of schedule ranking of 103rd.

Projections for the WCWS right now:

1. Oklahoma
2. UCLA
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Missouri
6. Clemson
7. Washington
8. Oklahoma State

Ole Miss may shock someone and go farther than expected.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball's offense stayed hot in an 11-7 win Friday night against Ole Miss to clinch the weekend series.

For the second-straight game, every batter in the Alabama (41-7, 17-6 SEC) lineup earned a hit, led by a 3-for-4 day from Kaylee Tow while Alexis Mack, Bailey Hemphill, KB Sides, Jenna Johnson and Elissa Brown each tallied two hits. The 16 hits as a team was the Crimson Tide's highest total in SEC play and just one shy of its overall season high. Krystal Goodman (8-1) threw six innings to earn the win against Ole Miss (34-18, 12-11 SEC) while Montana Fouts entered in the seventh to secure the final three outs.

Alabama took the early lead over Ole Miss in the first inning after Johnson dropped a two-run double into shallow left in between three defenders. With two on and one out in the top of the third, a double and back-to-back singles from the Rebels swung the lead in their favor, 3-2. With the bases loaded and two out in the next half-inning, a fielding error plated two runs for the Crimson Tide to make it 4-3 but Ole Miss quickly tied it back up in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single.

The first two batters reached base safely in the bottom of the fourth before Mack dropped a double into shallow center to score one, with an errant throw on the same play allowing the trailing runner to score and make it 6-4. A sac fly RBI from Hemphill tacked on another before a two-out single from Savannah Woodard drove in a run and an error on the play moved another across the plate to make it 9-4. Another fielding error extended the inning as a run scored to make it 10-4 before a fly out ended the frame. An RBI single from Sides in the fifth made it 11-4 but Alabama stranded two on base, unable to close out the run rule in five innings. The Rebels scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh but could not complete the comeback, with the Tide winning 11-7.

FROM HEAD COACH PATRICK MURPHY

"This was the second game in a row that every player in the lineup got a hit, so offensively it was a great game. We put pressure on them the whole time and even though I would have liked for us to end it early in the fifth, I thought we were really good up and down the lineup tonight. Our crowd was awesome and they got excited at the right times."
