we kinda halfway talked about this in the "omg Eddie's hurt" thread, but to be more specific who do you guys see being groomed to be our 3rd down fast guy as we would usually have?

i don't guess it's a necessity to have someone like that, but it seems like we usually do. my guess is Blake Sims for this season.

Ideally, I'd want a change of pace guy.

The two we are going to look at are going to be Brent and Blake. The thing that sticks out to me is there isn't a lot of difference when it comes to speed when you compare the two B's with TR.

Neither aren't the "bulls" coming out of the backfield TR or JF are, and neither really are the pure scat back either.

Blake was fairly quick coming out of high school but he has put on @ 20lbs since he's arrived at the Capstone. Has that had an effect on his quickness? Right now he's around the 210lbs mark, give a few pounds maybe.

That's about the size Brent will come in at.

The biggest thing that makes me agree with you is the ability to pick up blitz packages. Blake has had experience, albeit a small amount, reading blitz packages in the film room this year.

Brent, well, none.

It's my thought we are looking at TR, JF, and may see Blake in a few games: may. I definitely don't see him getting the reps Upchurch did in '08 or '09. I don't see him getting the reps Eddie did last year either. (at the most, taking both players, our third stringer didn't get on the field in four games: Upchurch in '08.)

IF we can make it through the season and still 'shirt Brent I'll be one happy camper. The only thing I'll regret is our inability to practice Brent on defense.

One thing the OP didn't mention is third down yardage. If it's short, I'd say Fowler in a heart beat. In fact, third and long he's a great option out of the backfield. He possibly could be our best possession receiver out of the backfield. He's sure looked like it in drills.

FWIW, that's one of the reasons I mentioned "change of pace guy." Right now, we've got three bruisers.
