🏈 So what's the deal with Dish, DirecTV, cable, etc..

I'm sure you guys have different setups and all. I'm debating right now as to which would fit me best. I don't really care much about TV, but i want to catch the games this fall at home instead of going to other peeps houses or bars. I have a 22 mo old boy too and wouldn't mind some good educational stuff for him.

Bama games are primary on this deal. What say you?

we had charter years ago but dropped them quick when we got a taste of their customer service (or lack thereof). it's a bit of a long story that i won't bore you with here. after that we got dish satellite and couldn't be happier.

the package we have (second from the top tier) will be getting the SEC Network in august with no additional charges or need to add anything else.

We have DirecTV; therefore, we won't be getting the SEC Network. Our remote controls are abysmally slow.

My wife loved Dish before, but she got caught up in the whole dropping AMC thing like so many others did. About month after we started our contract with DirecTV, the biggest surprise ever... :sarcish and AMC reconciled. When this current contract is over, I think not only will she be making the call to Dish, she might even help the maintenance guy with the actual dishes.

That being said, coupled with G-Mac's off-handed laugh the other night about the SEC Network and DirecTV customers' luck, I still think DirecTV will come around and get the SEC Network. DirecTV is going to lose a lot more people because of this pissing match with the SEC Network than Dish did those who really wanted to watch that stupid zombie show, Mad Men (her #1 complaint), and ...something else.

Despite all that whininess above, I'd still rather have satellite than cable.

Btw @jdpas29, there are a number of children's channels on DirecTV. I'm sure Dish offers those too.

DirecTv will get it. As for me, I dropped Direct last week (after about 7 years) and went with Uverse. Love it so far. The change had nothing to do with the SEC Network, but I'm happy I swapped.

I had Uverse at my previous house. It wasn't terrible; it's not available here...Hell, we don't even have cable in this neighborhood (about eight years old). Right now, we're trying to petition Charter to set up something so we can use them for Internet service. AT&T's service is horrible!

I want to cut the cord, but haven't found a good way to fill the sports void - espn360 will provide some relief, but not enough. I'll probably be going to U-Verse soon, as I can bundle my internet/tv and save some money. I've been a DirecTV customer for probably 10 years now. What model receivers do you have? You can upgrade your remotes by purchasing them via Amazon/eBay cheaper than purchasing via DirecTV. This might not help as the receivers could be the reason the remote seems slow.

If it wasnt for how much cheaper I get my cable internet I would probably have Dish too, but when our cable company announced they would be replacing CSS with the SEC Network I decided to stick with it to keep the internet price down (its $10 bundled with my cable now and would be over $40 if I got rid of the cable).

U-Verse on a college football Saturday.

I can't speak for where they'd put it on your TV, it might be the same channel number across the subscription base. The just announced it in this area and it's 607/1607. All the number runs that way. 1000 goes to HD. (607 used to be the LongHorn Network.)

There's a corresponding theme with their channel layout. 601 is a multi-view, programmable, good for that afternoon where you're casually watching three or four games.

602 through 606 are ESPN channels. So, SECN will fall right with the rest of the channels I'd be watching. Easy interface.

All channels section run that way. 200's is news, 300 kids (multiview again..up to 30 channels favorited) and so on...

Easy user interface.

I think SECN starts with the second tier package.

The installer who put in my Uverse said that AT&T wanted/tried to get an exclusive deal with ESPN for the SEC Network (I guess similar to what DirecTV had/has with the NFL Sunday Ticket), but the SEC wouldn't go for it. He says they even offered to install wifi (free for fans) at all SEC stadiums as part of the deal.

If you think AT&T's service is horrible, then don't even give an inkling of a thought about getting Charter. I have had Charter off and on for several years. Only reason I have stuck with it is for the internet. I have had ATT Uverse in the past (currently unavailable where I live). Charter sux big fat purple donkey.........well you know the rest.

I have given serious thought to going to Dish, but I would pay the same amount of money and not have as good internet service.

After about 5 years of DirecTV (switched after many years of hassling with Charter) we switched to Uverse about a year and a half ago. Internet service is sweet, TV usually very good, but we have had some strange issues. Their customer service department is as annoying as all the rest.

i'm looking closest at dishnet because of the SECnetwork and their pricing for internet makes a little more sense... brighthouse is ok but it will end up costing more overall...

Terry, yes they do. They announced it today along with Time Warner.
