| FTBL SLY CROOM RESIGNS

My first thought was does this take MSU out of the picture for Bumphis?

Good. If we don't get Stinson now, Fletcher Cox is ours.

That was my first thought as well...at least, I'm assuming it was your first thought. :D

Well, my first thought, was "huh... that was a year earlier than I expected."

But, it was my second thought. :D

Miss State fans are already starting to throw around Jeff Bowers name.

Even better, one guy just posted, "What about Mike Dubose?"

Now he's no longer hc of an sec rival, can his transgressions toward Bama be forgiven?

Of course he's forgiven...he's a Bama Man and always will be....so the question should be, does he ever forgive Bama for not hiring him? I hope so...he's a dang good coach when he wants to be.

This is an interesting and unexpected twist, at least to me. Wonder if the PTB have anyone in mind, or if this was mutual, or did CSC resign own his own & unexpectedly?

I would guess he was told to make staff changes, and chose to resign instead. His staff, overall, was the worst in the SEC.

I think the final nail was the Egg Bowl. They weren't even remotely competitive in that debacle. State's gonna be (and has been) a hard sell for recruiting and good head coach with the resurrection of Ole Miss and Saban crashing the recruiting base. State really hasn't been worth a hoot in hell since Fran was at Bama.

A couple of things going on around Starkville.

One, you are right about the changes. That has been suggested and it first started around a month ago. Some of the PTB's around MSU had even gone to the point of talking with Borges behind the scenes about taking over for McCorvey.

Secondly, the Athletic Director when he was hired, Larry Templeton, is no longer in that position and he was probably Croom's most staunch supporter. (it's worth noting that their new AD, Greg Byrne, is the son of the Texas A&M AD...a family fairly well known in coaching circles)

Then, add to that, they are in the process of moving to a new school president as well. Their old Pres resigned abruptly, then their interim did as well a few months ago...a lot of shake ups around there now.
