Carolina Panthers hire former Alabama WR Tyrone Prothro

Former Alabama wide receiver Tyrone Prothro was hired by the Carolina Panthers as an intern coach for training camp Wednesday. Prothro played under current Panthers offensive coordinator and former Tide head coach Mike Shula from 2003-’05 before suffering a career-ending leg injury against Florida on Oct 1, 2005.

Cool story: #Panthers have hired former #Bama WR Tyrone Prothro as intern coach for training camp. Was a star for Mike Shula until injury

Prothro recorded 863 yards, five touchdowns and 58 receptions in 26 games during his three seasons at Alabama. He also provided one of the best catches in college football history shown in the video below:

Man... that's good for him! that kid could play. I was at the game he got hurt in. I know players want to make plays. but, he should of been on the sidelines chilling. That game was in hand. RTR!!

I still hate seeing people bash Shula for calling a play that resulted in a freak injury. He had absolutely nothing to do with Prothro getting injured. Football is violent and by the logic most use saying he should have been on the bench, then it would have been another player getting injured on the same play. Just like it wasn't Art Shell's fault when Bo Jackson's career was over.
