Incarcerated for 15 years, Sherman Williams walked out of prison in March - and he doesn't have any more time to sit around. That's why he and another former Alabama football star, David Palmer, are hosting a football camp on Saturday at Prichard Municipal Stadium.

Williams, through the Palmer-Williams Group, wants to influence the youngsters in his hometown in a positive way before their minds acclimate to the negative influences they commonly see around them. Most of the children at the camp will be from disadvantaged backgrounds. Williams, 40, can relate to what the children go through every day, and he hopes to use that so they don't go through what he did behind bars for more than 5,475 days.

If we have discussed this before, I missed it. Sherman was a terrific running back for us in the early to middle nineties, than played four years for the Dallas Cowboys as a back up for Emmett Smith. He got into trouble with the law in 2000 and has been incarcerated until his release this year.

Sherman was the hero of the 1995 Citrus Bowl win over Michigan, but is most remembered for his signature move after touchdowns, the "Sherman Shake". He was fun to watch.

I just saw that he and David Palmer are running a football camp for disadvantaged youth in his hometown of Prichard, part of his probation. He seems to have his head on straight, and I wish him well.
