Well to be honest, that's getting taken wrong in my opinion. Shaq's point was, if you're bitching about putting $80 to fill up the tank, don't let it get empty. It's just a mind trick with the money, but his point was accurate. If you get all up in your feels cause it costs $80 for a fill up, then don't let it fall below half a tank and you won't cry about it.
Of course we all know it's the same amount of fuel over the long term. Just makes you feel better about it.
When you walk into a car dealership, they don't want to talk to you about the cost of the car. They want to talk about what you want your monthly payments to be. There's a reason for that. You'd rather hear "it's 350 a month" than "it's 40 grand." That's what they call "blowing the customer off the lot." That 40 grand commands an immediate negative reaction.
