Are we on the same page that with Mays it was probably more of not being coddled, as well as his family at Georgia? He was getting playing time if my memory serves me correctly.
Something you'll find interesting.
BamaK on TI:
~For a program who talks as much trash as if their trophy case is full of accomplishments, they are a unique bunch. Living here in Atlanta puts me in proximity to passionate UGA fans some of whom I thought we were friendly until someone points out I'm a BAMA guy then the facial expression changes. I experienced that even in a business environment and saw someone I'd known for nearly 20 years do that and he wasn't joking. They detest BAMA and it's understandable like we once did Notre Dame for years after we felt they took rings from us multiple times.
As for the "Toxic Environment" characterization that comes from the attorney of the OL transfer, Cade Mayes, and sometimes you have to be skeptical but in this case everything I've heard is that's accurate. For instance, Trenton Thompson called former DC, Jeremy Pruitt, and complained about how the new staff wasn't taking care of the existing players but handing out the $$ to the new recruits. His mom had just lost her job and he thought they should help her and combined with what he considered improper treatment of his injured shoulder he was threatening the transfer to UA and follow Pruitt.
I've posted several times about their network and how it's keyed upon getting kids on campus and finding out who are the key people then cutting deals. That's why they were exposed in the early season it wasn't because of kids not experiencing the UGA campus because speaking from someone who was just there on business less than 2 weeks ago, that campus can't hold a candle to UA. The topography is terrible with aged roads, a ton of hills to navigate and not centralized. Also, after visiting the Football Complex the weekend of the Notre Dame game it was comical with the lack of accomplishments they could display. While there a coach's wife took me down to the prohibited lower level and I mingled with the players and was tempted to give a RTR to Jake Fromm. If Kirby only knew! LOL!
Now we have this incredible assembly of elite prospects who miraculously all have the resources to come together at one time for a group visit without breaking rules. The only thing I'll say is that in the '20 Class they landed a kid who miraculously acquired the resources to fly across country for "6" unofficial visits though he was a new Dad and his family had been evicted from "3" different apartment complexes because of their financial condition.
The competitive part of me almost has admiration for their creativity and how they have people especially what credible people calls their key "Bag Man" who has access to kids who has gone unnoticed for the most part. They offer the similar number Ole Miss did which is depending on who you talk to, $2,500 to $3,000" per visit and the kids find it too hard to pass up.
Let's get 2 things clear, UGA doesn't have an elite recruiting staff nor or they the "Hot School", they just are playing the game hard led by what their own fan base once called "Coach 2 x 4" not "The Kang."
Their problem is the track record of this state is always blowing it (Super Bowl, 2nd & 26), it's tough to lead a group of some bought players, and you do have to actually properly manage big games.
Only in my adopted state of Georgia!
