šŸˆ SEC Tie Breaker

I know, I know "don't worry about that, we just need to keep winning"...yea, yea, yea. Gimme a break, I want to discuss this.

Yesterday I was watching the CBS game between Georgia and Auburn, and they showed the tiebreaker that it would come down to if Alabama wins out, and Arkansas happened to beat LSU. The tiebreaker was read something along the lines of: If teams are tied in their conference record, as well as overall record, then BCS ranking would be the next tiebreaker. However, if the teams are within 5 spots of one another, the tiebreaker goes to the team who won the head-to-head matchup.

Now, IF (and this is a BIG IF) this were to happen, all 3 teams would be within 5 spots of each other. Heck, we might all be 1,2,3...but that's beside the point. But, if you see where I'm going this tiebreaker wouldn't work because the head-to-head between BAMA and Arky, we won, the head-to-head between BAMA and LSU, LSU won, and (hypothetically) the tiebreaker between LSU and Arky, Arky won.

All this to say...what's the next tiebreaker step? Anyone have a list?

8. The tied team with the highest ranking in the Bowl Championship Series Standings following the last weekend of regular-season games shall be the divisional representative in the SEC Championship Game, unless the second of the tied teams is ranked within five-or-fewer places of the highest ranked tied team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the SEC Championship Game.

So I guess that it would come down to what each team was ranked.

It all depends on how far LSU would fall in the BCS rankings. If we were #2 and LSU were #5 and Arky #6, then LSU goes (at least that is how I read it). The top 2 in the rankings would be taken out and head to head comparison.

In this scenario, does bama go to the bsc NC game and LSU does not? surely LSU would be ranked higher than 5 after the SECCG, so I'm guessing that's how bama and lsu rematch?

#1 rule in BCS Qualifications:

"1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings (see below) shall play in the National Championship Game."

If all else fails, see Rule #1.

If Arky (which is already #6) beats LSU, then I would think Arky would end up ranked higher than LSU but lower than us. The tie-break is between the top two apparently even if there are three teams within five places of each other. In that case the tie break goes to us for the SECCG. If that happens, we still need to beat Georgia to go to the NCG.

Here's the thing... What if LSU wins out but then loses to UGA in the SECCG. Does that move us up enough to go?

No, Bama will have to already be in at #2. LSU would fall no lower than #2 in that case. They are not going to put the 11-1 loser of Bama-LSU in the BCSNCG and leave the 12-1 winner of Bama-LSU out.

The tie-breaker is for the SECCG. If Arky beats LSU, that makes all three teams 11-1 (assuming we win out). At that time, Bama will have only lost to the #1 team in the nation, Arky will have only lost to the #2 team, while LSU will have lost to the #6 team. If Arky beats LSU, I believe LSU will have to drop to at least #5 or below. That would be below both Arky and Bama. In that case, whether Arky jumps us or not, we (Arky and Bama) will be within 5 slots of each other and the head to head goes to Bama for the SECCG. They key to all of this is my assumption that LSU would drop to about where Arky was. Of course, it's all speculation, but that's what I am seeing.

Assume Arky beats LSU. They're 6th, and we're 3rd. LSU loses so Arky moves up to 4th or 3rd and we move to 2nd. LSU would be back at 5th or 6th.

The SEC tie-breaker only ever says anything about "two" teams within 5 spots. So obviously it will be Bama at 2nd and Arkansas at 4th (or whatever). What I'm saying is, Arkansas will be closer to us than LSU will be. So wouldn't the head-to-head automatically go to Bama vs Arky? Not Bama vs Arkansas vs LSU…?
In other words, LSU wouldn't even be a factor, would they?

I may be wrong but that's how I interpreted it.

Edit: It appears this was already discussed in a post on the 1st page. Oh well.

I was answering his question.

Which was: "Here's the thing... What if LSU wins out but then loses to UGA in the SECCG. Does that move us up enough to go?"

Your reply to me was about the SECCG. My answer to him was about the BCSNCG.
