🏈 SEC teams disadvantaged during bowls

In a fair world a conference's #1 would play another conference's #1, a #2 faces a #2.... For years I have noted that the SEC catches a raw deal in most of its Bowl match-ups. This year is no different.

Consider this extreme example. Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Central Florida all claim the title of conference champion. Oregon is rightly pitted against our #1. But Ohio State gets a Division #2. Central Florida faces a division #3. And Michigan State squares off against a Division #4. (Inject that bit of information into the next debate you are privy to about which conference is best.)

In double OT the an ACC division #3 bested and SEC #4.

BIG Ten #8 Michigan faces what has to be considered the SEC #9 Mississippi State

ACC Division Champion Florida State is rightly matched with SEC Divsion Champ South Carolina.

Big Ten #6 Penn State plays Florida, who is either the SEC #4 (by virture of finishing in #2 in the East) or the SEC #6 (by virtue of their record versus other SEC teams)

LSU vs. Texas A&M are both Divison #3s, so that is good.

And the Big East #3 Pittsburgh is somehow mated with the SEC #10 Kentucky.

Viewed in this manner, the SEC faces 6-Mismatches, 3-Fair fights, and 1-that can be wither Fair or a mismatch. 10 Bowls and not one pairing where we have an advantage.

SEC teams have the advantage in every single matchup. They play in the SEC.

Opinion...best supported by the conferences ability to overcome what has been by all other measures an unfair practice.

I don't so much have an issue with the pairings as I do with the lack of credit for excelling within the system.

It is as if we loose twice...in our winning.

Thanks for posting this. Good to know someone else feels like this.

I mentioned something very similar to my wife and the reply was: "You and your conspiracy theories."

I still think the SEC is being set up to lose some of that "best conference" reputation it has built these last few years.

Anyone here think that Central Florida was BCS caliber...cause they finished with 11 wins and an SEC team with 11 wins is in that running...and histroy has proven 11 win SEC teams worthy.

Props to FSU. The noles played with passion, but the whole time I'm thinking that they benefited from Florida not shouldin gup this year. USC was a good team, but there is no doubt that "the SEC East Champ" this year is not what it has been. And with Lattimore out on the opening drive, the Gamecocks were total beatable. Again, props to FSU for handling what could have been a test opponent.

As for UT; Having a first year HC means something. Having a young, rookie QB means something. The "finishing with a losing record" part does not surprise me, the still going bowling does to some degree. UT was one of the volunerable teams and still almost pulled it off. Consider this; If 2OT implies that these teams are fairly equal, it is interesting the UNC finishied 4-4 in their conference while UT finished 3-5 in the weakest SEC East any of us can remember.
