I've looked at a lot of what Slive has done—the controversial things seen my some fans—and really didn't have any feelings one way or another about them. Frankly, I didn't see any "big" consequence in any decision or ruling he's made.

But, this one he's led the Presidents into?

I almost look at this latest ruling in the light of it being as big of a black eye on the SEC as the probational issues have become a blight on our conference.

Solomon, along with a select few other reporters/writers in the SE, sees the entire picture. Not just what Slive wants you to see.

The SEC has managed to send the message it covets one-and-done basketball players on the front end who don't graduate, but despises one-and-done athletes on the back end carrying a diploma....

One-and-done players without degrees on the front end? No problem. One-and-done players with diplomas on the back end? No way.

When you sign a high profile player there is the risk that he will leave early, but I don't see SEC basketball coaches other than Calipari selling the "I'll get you to the league in a year". Part of the issue with basketball is the NBA rule as opposed to NFL and MLB rules soncerning underclassmen.

True, but it doesn't explain how he says, "he doesn't want the SEC to be a training camp for a year." It's disingenuous, at its best.

FWIW, this rule comes into play 10-1-11. So, if Auburn does indeed land the commitment of...geez, can't think of the QB's name...

To give Cal his due, two of his three one and done types stayed in school, and Knight, who left, was doing quite well academically.(Last year was a different story, obviously.) Short of the NBA changing its rules to agree with the other major sports I don't see a solution.

I wanted to say Wilson, but kept thinking Tyler Wilson who'll be starting for Arkansas this year.

And, once again, you're right. I don't see a solution either and have my doubts if the NBA will make such a move. It's not like the NCAA can say, "you have to stay in school two years."
